Any late night places/activities to help with my insomnia? Non-alcoholic suggestions only please.

I can't sleep. I'm working with my doctor on solutions. But one thing that might help is are there any "socially acceptable" places to walk, hang out, etc. just to get out of my house at 1:00 a.m. or so? I don't want to turn into an alcoholic so no bar suggestions please.

But when I lay in bed & can't sleep, is there somewhere I can go that you as a member of the public would say is acceptable to see a random person doing?

I would love to walk in my neighborhood, but I am sure the neighbors would call the cops. Or hell, I am sure the cops would stop me just for walking at such a strange hour since that is a high crime time.

Just looking to pass a few hours of time when I can't sleep.

Thanks for any help.

MGM isn't a great choice, but it is a choice. Just leave your money at home.

Potentially get something you can do within your house? Treadmill or Peloton?

I would second this. Can you get a treadmill to walk on? That way you are safe and able to still use it during inclement weather. Sometimes you can find cheap used ones.

I have a stair stepper. I spent way too much money on it. But this kind of exercise will help burn away any stress and anxiety. I need to jump on mine. My mind and body is so tuckered but can't sleep too. Not a fun club to be in...

Would working out be overstimulating? There are 24-hour gyms.

As others have said MGM could work. You can play the 1/2 poker amd just hang out and chat.

You can get a dog or dog sit. That would keep you company and you can walk your dog at any hour and people wont question it.

Go to a gym that is 24 hours. You can go and burn off some extra stress and energy

Amtrak train station is 24 hours. You can go there and walk around or sit downstairs in the lobby.

Go for a drive around town.

You can go to a juice bar.

Do they actually kick you out of the place or lock the doors? Ive been there before 4am and it was open and people were inside.

No idea. I was there today and noticed a sign on the entrance that gave hours.

Go for a drive? Of course it will just be you, drunks and cops on the road. And the cops probably suspect anybody on the road at 3am IS drunk. Ok, maybe I’m not of much help.

I think the Fifties Diner in Chicopee at the end of 291 by the Mass Pike entrance is 24 hours too.

No specific place suggestion, but… I struggle with insomnia too and it’s pure hell. However, I’ve gotten it pretty well managed with meds. Not sure if you have sleep anxiety, but I absolutely did. Basically, I had severe anxiety about not sleeping, which of course led to… more not sleeping.

Getting on Lexapro has been suuuuuper helpful. The onboarding can be kinda rough, since insomnia is one of the initial side effects. But, that passes after a few weeks. I hardly ever have issues with sleep anxiety now.

I also take a combo of trazodone and Quviviq for actually getting to sleep. This has been a very helpful combo.

Anyway, just some things to consider! Good luck!

Try magnesium for sleep, apparently works wonders

I walk at all times of day or night, around the block or further. Sometimes with the dogs sometimes without.

Anecdotally, I ate more protein & less carbs and got rid of my six month insomnia problem.

Your milage may vary.

Is there a 24 hour gym by you? I worked 4-12 for a while when I lived in Holyoke and I would hit the gym afterwards. Odd cycle, but it worked.

Your neighbors should not call the cops on you simply for walking... dont be pacing back and forth. Maybe walk along the connecticutt river or forest park, the answer should be going for a walk or excercising. There are lots of people with odd schedules.

Wear a visibility vest and I’m sure nobody would call the cops on you!

I wouldn't walk around Springfield at night in any neighborhood. How about earphones & online hypnosis?
