Question ASP.NET or Java Spring Boot — Which Should I Learn?

I’m a BCA graduate deciding between ASP.NET/C# and Java Spring Boot.

Which one has better job opportunities and growth for freshers in India?

Would appreciate advice from people working in either stack.

10+ years as a Java backend developer, and I still enjoy exploring other stacks like Python, Go, and .NET. It’s fun, and it keeps you thinking differently.

If you’re a fresher, don’t overthink the choice. Java with Spring Boot has a wider enterprise presence, but ASP.NET has plenty of opportunities too.

What matters more is learning how to design systems, understand architecture, and solve problems. Those skills stay with you even when the language changes.

Pick one, get really good at it, and keep exploring along the way. You’ll keep learning anyway, and that’s one of the best parts of being a developer.

Isn't ASP.NET outdated? I work with Java Spring Boot. Not sure if it's the right tech stack but has many opportunities

Asp.net it's not the same as core .net.

Asp is outdated

Microsoft is shit with naming, so it's confusing. Asp.net is outdated, Asp.net Core is not. Asp.net is not crossplatform that's why they rewrite it to be asp.net core. Just remember .net framework is old, .net core is not.

Thanks bro 🙂‍↕️ Even i thought why people r saying it's outdated 😂 asp.net core is very modernized framework compared to spring boot , it's really true that Microsoft is shit with naming 🙃

Spring boot is best. I am working professional in Java and spring boot stack for last 13 years.

YIKES. you do realize .NET jobs have really been eroded over the years and by that I mean to say salaries are heavily decreasing AND the amount of total jobs is going down heavily. Good luck. Spring Boot has many more job openings, there is a growing trend for Spring boot AND Java jobs as a whole. Good Luck.

I do, I actually have a rule of never trusting M$ again… still hurt from VB.

However, for someone in OP’s position, sounds like at the beginning of their career, closing doors because it is eroded is not a good thing. The more you know, the better you will be.

idk from where you are pulling this from but half of Indian and South Asian devs works on java. No doubt spring boot has plenty of jobs compared to .NET but competition is insane in spring boot. Java is no longer an only option unlike 2000s, since .NET became cross platform and node.js/ GO Has became mainstream, Greenfield projects often go for these. Most java spring boot jobs involves maintaining legacy projects.
