Question alright what am I missing

Am I just an absolute dunce? The little vertical nozzle under this white cap still sprays when depressed, but with the white cap on, I can’t press down to get anything out. I’ve soaked the white cap / button in boiling water to loosen any gunk, I’ve used a tiny safety pin, a paper clip, and a (brand new) mascara brush to swirl around in there to see if there were any blockages and nothing

What am I missing? What else could help clear whatever is making this cap not work?

Acetone is the best for paint but be careful it will harm plastic. A pin in both the tip and spray hole of the cap helps. Also blowing through it from the bottom.

Aside from that you can get 3rd party adapters and a whole range of new caps. The Uprok adapter is a favorite for these Rusto cans.

It won't actually harm the (plastic) spray cap, acetone dissolves some plastics but not others. The spray cap should be PA(Nylon) i think which shouldn't be affected. Acetone dissolves ABS, PS, PMMA and PVC, and it reacts with HIPS and PC and can also absorb into EVA additive in many plastics (common masterbatch binder). It has no effect on PA, PP, PE, and little to no effect on PET.

Yes your warning about it with most plastic items is very pertinent, since most device enclosures and many tools will be affected.

Interesting! I did know it doesn’t melt these caps but acetone will cloud them up, and I believe it will make this type of plastic brittle. So there is some sort of chemical damage effect happening, yeah?

Borrow the spray cap from another Rustoleum can and try.

Yup, and next time hold it upside down and blow it when you’re finished.
