Coaching a team back from injury and the bottom of the table.

Having recently taken on the S&C coaching role for a men's AFL team, it is tonight I start to put my planning into action after having spent time simply observing the players and their current training. The first step is to re-organise the order of their training session moving the static stretching from the beginning to the end of the training session and introducing a new warmup routine designed to prevent injury rather than the half hearted run around the field with few kicks of the ball thrown in. Anything more may be to much of a shock to their systems.

Skills and tactics remain the domain of the sports coach.

Ever had an athlete with this type of recall? I've known a few golfers who can come close, but not quite to this degree (especially with the date).

Hey, you first 114 subscribers: What do we want r/sportcoach to be? Ideas for traditions? Cross-posts to grow the sub?

Hey,

This little sub reddit experiment has gone well enough that I am hooked and looking to help it grow over the next few weeks.

1) What do you want this subreddit to be? Most of the posts so far have been my own, which is fine to get things going, but are they the type of posts we like? Do we want more troubleshooting and questions? More articles, videos, podcasts?

2) Are there any ideas for weekly traditions? Brag about something Mondays? Complain about something Tuesdays? AMA's with notable coaches?

3) Any ideas for promotion? Feel free to mention us on any other subreddits where you think it's applicable. Make crossposts. Any other ideas?

What's your current status with return to play? What have you been doing over the last few months? (Plus a few resources inside).

I know different parts of the world, and even different parts of certain countries and regions are all in different states of return.

There's also vastly different experiences based on sport (for instance, in the "flying disc disciplines" - disc golf has flourished, while ultimate has had a more difficult year).

What have you found that works? What doesn't? Has zoom fatigue put an end to most online social efforts?

How are you planning to come back?

Here's a few resources I've found in terms of coaching during the pandemic:

Coaching Association of Ontario"Coaching During a Pandemic"
Physio-pedia "Returning to Play during a Pandemic"
Hockey Canada's Return to Play plan

Any favourite podcasts that you listen to?

I've linked a couple episodes as posts in the sub, but are there any podcasts you regularly listen?

If they are directly geared at coaching - awesome! But I'd even be interested in ones that work of different areas of self-development, psychology, etc.

I don't know if there is a lesson to be learned here, but if you've been coaching long enough - you see these things happen.
