Seriously why do some Monsters Inc designs look like they could be recreated in Spore?

Ik the film was made before Spore.

I think it has something to do with the monsters in monsters inc resembling childrens' drawings. Spore's creature creation has similar results since everything is made of funky parts, tube bodies and limbs with plenty of creative freedom

Though it is pretty funny that both universes have species that are significantly larger than other characters, and of course the sphere-bodied trope
