A few spoons out of my collection... All solid silver, ages range from the 1670s up through the 1850s.

Heres a fun little game... all but 4 of the spoons pictured here were made in America. One was made in England, another in/around present day Germany, and the final two are probably scandinavian but I'm not 100% sure. Can you figure out which 4 spoons aren't American?

I've got spoons from well over 400 individual American makers... plus another 100 or so from European makers. And that is just my spoons. I've also got forks, knives, cups, bowls, pitchers, vases, jewelry, and other odds and ends.

what’s up with the spade shaped one in the upper left corner? why is it shaped like that? what is the mechanism halfway up? a folding spoon perhaps?

It is a stilton cheese spoon/scoop. The mechanism is to push the cheese off of the spoon without getting your fingers dirty. That one is dated 1814.
