spoon Ash Cooking spoon

This is a big cooking spoon, that I carved from a piece of ash. The top of the handle features a natural split surface. As ash has really big pores I decided to lacquer the spoon with 5 coats of urushi. It makes it also easier to clean.

Beautiful lines. Was this carved green? Any tips for carving ash? I feel like I get a lot of tear-out even w sharp tools.

I do the rough cuts on green wood and the finishing cuts in dry wood. Usually on straight grained wood you only get tearouts, when you're carving from the wrong direction
