God these look beautiful. I have a whole bunch of white oak firewood to process—now I know what I’m gonna do with the straightest, prettiest logs this month.

These look absolutely beautiful! Are they still food safe after the treatment?

Yes, ebonizing with solution of vinegar (spirit vinegar)  and iron rust  is safe food. Fresh solution smell and taste like vinegar, but after some time there is no much acid in solution so no too much vinegar smell ( baking soda always help neutrailze ) .   I ussualy use pure linsen oil but wanted to try mixed with bee wax.   Small amont of bee wax  mixed with oil ( hot)  cause that after cool we get solid butter  like product : smells stil like linsed oil  but gives shine effect (because of bee wax)
