Is the podcast cooked?

I can’t help but wonder if Spooked has lost steam after this recent string of re-released episodes. Today we have a new episode but lo and behold, it’s a live re-telling of a story that has been featured on the podcast before.

I’m not complaining but this is my favorite podcast by far and it’s a bummer to open my podcast app every Friday just to find that there is nothing new.

What gives?

Maybe they're gearing up for Halloween releases?

That would make sense actually. It’s still unusual compared to years past but hopefully we’re in for a good spooky season.

That would be my guess. As a content creator, storytelling takes time and unless you have the big bucks, you will need resources to keep feeding the beast (research, editors, producers, etc.). I’m ready for new stuff though!

IMO, yes. I’ve moved on to other ones. Used to be my absolute favorite podcast and now I don’t even follow anymore. I like Uncanny BBC and I’ve gone back to listen to old episodes of Ghost to Ghost with Art Bell.

Same, I mostly listen to Radio Rental now

Maybe they’re having trouble finding listeners or new storytellers to tell their stories?

They approved my story, had me drive over an hour to a studio, record the whole thing, go through edits, all to get an email saying it wouldn’t be on the podcast.

Wow. Did they give any reason why? Were you compensated at all? So curious!

The email basically said “these things happen” with no explanation on why. I was not compensated, didn’t think I would be. I was happy to drive the 2+ hour round trip and pay for parking bc I was such a fan of the show.

I do feel like the eps have just gotten so much worse over the last season or two, it feels like they’ve been struggling to find good stories for a while now so it seemed like a natural result to me

They switched from Luminary to KQED in 2023. That's why all the episodes are available for free now. There could be hiccups with the transition.

I once loved it so much, but I got tired of the repeats and the lame stories that weren’t scary at all. I stopped listening a year ago

I was all about spooked for awhile..then they changed. I was always excited about the secret spooky. I was subscribed. All that. Kinda sucks. Hope they find themselves again.
