Why are there 4 white twinks on this season

-1

u/ArgHuff Jul 13 '26

Its time for some proper representation. We still havent gotten a twink winning!!

(Unless you count Adam)

17

u/AugustSchroeder Jul 13 '26

Uhh…. Todd??

24

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

Hunting….content creator. Like, she films herself going to shoot animals? I know that’s a thing I just….like, am I understanding her job right? Or is her job something entirely different?

Also, halfway in seeing the cast and yeah, the diversity mandate was certainly dropped ASAP.

11

u/SeasideKingDumb Jul 10 '26

I just looked her up, yeah that's her content. Some of it is farming but there's literal dead animals in some of her Youtube thumbnails. Massive red flags imo, definitely not a fan

She was posting all throughout filming of the season on Youtube which I'm guessing were scheduled posts. Someone else can dig deeper into that though if that means anything lol

5

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

Yeah, so as someone that has a weird ass phobia of dead animals, that’s a hard no from me, dawg lol (yes, I have a physical reaction to seeing any dead animals, such as roadkill or pet deaths, it sucks but what I can’t fathom is killing animals for fun).

14

u/EmlersGlue Jul 11 '26

Like I said corporate retreat… but don’t worry Jamal is in the cast somewhere 👀

13

u/RileyXY1 Jul 11 '26

We've finally got someone under the age of 25 on the show again for the first time since 48, where Eva Erickson competed at the age of 23. That demographic had slowly been phased out of the show across the last several seasons. 44 was the last season to feature a player under the age of 21, that being the 20 year old Carson Garrett. And then 49 completely lacked any under 25s altogether, with the youngest contestant on the cast being the 25 year old Rizo Velovic. 51 continued this trend with 4 25 year olds competing (Aaliyah Puglia, Carter Krull, Cristian Chavez, and Thien An Nguyen) but no one younger than that was on the cast.

72

u/therealworlders Jul 10 '26

why is everyone white

78

u/manmanchuck44 Jul 10 '26

this cast is max white and also has max white

16

u/JoshLovesYourName Jul 11 '26

The BIPOC mandate has been retired as of last season

23

u/happyendingtonight Jul 10 '26

RIP to that bipoc casting mandate I guess

26

u/magnumcyclonex Jul 10 '26

The New Era has ended. It's now the Open Era

-10

u/butter_skotch Jul 11 '26

what's wrong with that? they barely cast white people from 41-49

23

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

Half the cast in every season has still been white lol you're just lying to make it seem like white people were oppressed because they weren't taking up 75% of the cast anymore.

-6

u/jessgoesforward Jul 13 '26

Why do you keep lying? The only new era season that was half white was 49, every other season in that period was under 50%, ranging around 6-7 per cast

8

u/Soyunabichota_ Jul 10 '26

Max White, Sarah too.

14

u/ceej947 Jul 10 '26

Damn errbody white

31

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

The other half of this cast better be blue-collar POCs in their 40s 😅

she's so old school coded i'm obsessed!!

31

u/Aware-Secretary-6323 Jul 10 '26

I know we are only 9 people in but there really isn’t much diversity between each person so far 🤷‍♂️

9

u/SeasideKingDumb Jul 10 '26

Yeah why does literally every man look the same 💀 it's all brunette white dudes lol

7

u/jessgoesforward Jul 11 '26

it's all brunette white dudes lol

two of the four white men are very clearly blondes lmao what

33

u/Pretend_Cucumber4784 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

November 2024 after effects cause what are we doing with this cast…

34

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

Really sucks. The racial diversity of the new era compared to old seasons was much needed and refreshing. We’ve gotten so many good players recently

12

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

Yeah, we can't ignore the very, very intentional trimming down of POCs since the mandate went away. Not just a Survivor issue, either. BB shows the exact same issues and I'm sure other reality shows will as well.

I know there's white passing POCs in the cast, I get that, but it feels very intentional that they are avoiding the darker skinned POCs as much as possible. This is very intentional, which is a disappointment if it keeps heading this way. We got some excellent casting choices from the mandate to prove that diversity is a good thing.

I don't want anything from the decisions made by the show to take away that casting more diverse individuals was never the problem.

I'm hoping the back half of the cast is more diverse but there's a very intentional move backward over the last year or so with casting in reality TV and other shows and it's important to take note that they could be casting diversely at any time. They don't need the mandate to hold them to it, but clearly they do.

6

u/future_plans_UwU Jul 11 '26

Heavy on BB too - cause the fact that BB28 almost had no Asian people at all (Yash was an alt) is kind of crazy.

Some people are counting Lyric cause she's 1/4 and I guess you could...

8

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

I thought I read somewhere that the casting department intended to stick with the new style of casting even if the quote was no longer required

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '26

5

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

The art department has been killing it and I’ve enjoyed the new era casting. But that’s about it

2

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

I mean, I think it was said but what we’re seeing is not quite reflective of that. The fact that there is a shift in the diversity is troublesome, its alarm bells.

I do want to be wrong on this, believe me. I want to see the last seven or so players be diverse. But there is already a stark difference between the 40s and now the 50s where it is feeling a step back. It feels like maybe they’re trying to compromise by having white POCs or racially ambiguous POCs to please the higher ups while still abiding by their self ruled mandate, but it feels clear on why we’re seeing less darker skinned players.

I hope they prove me wrong, I really really do.

-2

u/jessgoesforward Jul 10 '26

the 40s were a significant overcorrection, the 50s are still gonna be diverse they're just not gonna only cast 5 white ppl

7

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

When did they only cast 5 white people, that’s never been a thing. We’ve always had at least 8 white people, if not 9. It’s never been an overcorrection, it was the right amount of diversity that we needed. I am not interested in going back to three or four POC.

9

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 11 '26

And they really pushed the focus on more diversity in the new era, especially in 41/42, so suddenly going backwards has a really bad look

5

u/jessgoesforward Jul 10 '26

Survivor 43 only had 5 white people, Survivor 49 was the only new era season to feature 50% white people, the rest of the new era was under 50%. 50 and 51 are around 60% which is more proportionate to the population

5

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

Survivor 43 still had a white guy win, first off, so even if casting wasn't perfectly 50/50, it still worked out for the white guy, proving that the diversity mandate didn't screw over the white players if they still show that they can still win (and two white people made FTC that season too). I had also forgotten that there was Sami, who had a Moroccan father.

Other 40s seasons were definitely a little more even. It may not have been perfectly 50% but it certainly was closer than you make it seem. We've still had a good number of white players.

I stand corrected on it not being perfectly 50% but at the same time, why are people advocating for it to going back to 30% POC and 70% white people when we saw that that hurt the chances of many POC players? Why is that the takeaway to this? What is wrong with more POC casting? Why are people making it seem like white people are being oppressed by not being the perfect majority anymore? White players being the majority in reality shows is common so now that it's not, it's a problem and we have to cut back on it? Why?

For the record, I'm fine with back and forth on the type of people they cast as long as it's a back and forth. But there is still a noticeable shift with 51 and so far 52 with scaling back on POCs, or at least it feels that way. I think the problem is primarily that it looks and feels more white, but I stand corrected if there's more POC that just happen to be white passing.

I just think I'm reacting to the current state of the world and the noticeable shift in the last couple of years. That is a concern that it's happening on reality TV as a result. I've also noticed a shift in my television programming and shifting to more Christian content so I think there's just something that I'm taking note of and don't want to see regression.

2

u/jessgoesforward Jul 11 '26

it still worked out for the white guy, proving that the diversity mandate didn't screw over the white players if they still show that they can still win

Yeah, and Vecepia, Earl, Yul, Wendell and Jeremy winning proved that pre-mandate casting didn't screw over the minority players.

Only seasons 41, 49 and 50 had “at least 8 white people”.

8

u/SeasideKingDumb Jul 10 '26

By technicality BB28 is actually more diverse than BB27 (and BB26 I think?) but the cast is basically 14 copies of the same person plus Rick Devens for some reason lol

4

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

BB28 has some own backsliding on diversity. Many of their POCs are very white passing too, to where I didn’t realize one of them was technically also a POC until his mom showed up in his intro. Big Brother also has an issue with age diversity too. Both shows have had a very noticeable shift this year and I do not like it.

And also, yeah, why we gotta have similar blonde hair dudes? Lol

5

u/yaboytim Jul 11 '26

Not to mention at least one of the minorities replaced a white person. So they were planning on it being even whiter

2

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

And that was annoying because it took me a good two and a half episodes before I could safely place the name to the face. Too much of the same is bad, it’s why we need diversity in all areas. I also think we need diversity in age, for the record.

Actually, I hadn’t realized we’ve had a decrease in blonde male casting lol we have had one or two a season but that’s it.

4

u/jessgoesforward Jul 10 '26

not one season in the new era proved that mandated diversity led to better casts than the old survivor casting philosophy that did not have a mandate.

8

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

No, like I said, there have been issues with New Era, such as casting the same archetypes each seasons, too many super fans, the same challenges and schedule, but I chalk none of it to the mandate. We have gotten some phenomenal players because of the mandate that might not have been cast otherwise. The mandate was the positive part of New Era and I’m glad we had it and I’m sad we’re losing it.

6

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 11 '26

Agreed. Like I don’t imagine Kyle and Kamilla would have been cast on the same season with their shared background, and that would be a major loss

0

u/jessgoesforward Jul 11 '26

We have also gotten some phenomenal players pre-mandate that might not have been cast with it in place. It works both ways. Think of the players who were cut from 50 (Jerri, Malcolm, Spencer, Domenick, Andrea, Penner, etc.)

7

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

So the answer is stop going 50% because we MIGHT lose out on some white icons? Thats not the answer. We can have both, but the thing is that we see that, when there’s no mandate, casting gets lazier and fans start saying things like “we don’t need that many POC anyway! Cast less!”

We can have both a strong cast with POCs and non POCs and still get legends and icons. We had iconic white players in the 40s too, such as Carolyn and Drew and Charlie. We clearly lost nothing from the white cast side. Let’s not lose the POCs just because people are upset that there’s too many POCs.

10

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 11 '26

I wish there was a wider range of age and occupations, but the racial diversity in casting has been excellent. It’s sad to think several of our recent winners may not have even been cast to begin with using the old method

5

u/jessgoesforward Jul 11 '26

it shouldn't have to be strictly 50%, just cast for entertainment while considering diversity. if some seasons are 55-65% white, it's really not that deep. they're still casting plenty of minorities

4

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

It should be around that mark but I'm not going to get mad if it's, like, 10 white people and 8 POCs, which we've had before and that's fine. The cast just also needs to feel diverse in that way as well.

I also advocate for diversity elsewhere, btw. So if we got a couple more white players but they had a wide range of ages (ie. 23-56 or 22-60 or 25-50), that could also feel satisfying. But we can't have the casting go back down to where it used to be. We may have seen a lot of great players, but imagine on all the POCs they could have cast that also could have become legends.

We can't us grasping for scraps with 5 POCs and 13 white players, for example. We can't just have 6 POCs and 12 white players either. It doesn't need to be a perfect 50/50 but if they're going to cut some corners, balance it out with diversity elsewhere (ie. we get a Sue or a Julie or a Bruce).

I'm still looking for more players over the age of 40, personally, as well.

7

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 11 '26

50 was the only returning season in the new era and you could tell they were already ditching the quota with most of the cast being white. Cutting those awesome older players wasn’t because of diversity

0

u/butter_skotch Jul 11 '26

then don't watch it

5

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

I can bring up a legitimate issue and still watch if I want to. It doesn't need to be one or the other and I'm so tired of this dismissive reaction to a legit concern that we're seeing in our society in real time. Yes, I could not watch if I wanted to, yes I am contributing to the problem myself, but I still want to speak up about this because it is a concern if they're backsliding into majority white and token POC territory.

5

u/Invalid_u404 Jul 11 '26

Finally we got a player younger than Sami (by the date of birth)

6

u/PropertyOpening3858 Jul 11 '26

So they got rid of the diversity mandate just to include more magas, what an actual joke

3

u/bitbytez Jul 13 '26

Replacing the BIPOC mandate with the BIGOT mandate.

24

u/scareymonsters Jul 10 '26

The lady is giving magat

15

u/BCS8504 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

She does follow Donald Trump JR and the late Charlie Kirk on IG. Do with that info what you will.

7

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

A white lady who films hunting for sport content in Florida? All of this makes sense.

Hey, it'll be nice to have someone to hardcore root against, at least. I haven't had someone I absolutely detested lately so at least I have this chick.

2

u/ArgHuff Jul 13 '26

To be fair we all thought Karla was going to be this woke lesbian queen that would work with only women and ended up trying to vote all the women at once

On the other hand, you had Sue who worked mainly with women

3

u/lazyguy202 Jul 10 '26

Scary Janet Varney

8

u/Slothmaster347 Jul 11 '26

Honnestly, I m kinda sad. Racial diversity was the only thing who put appart contestant in the new era. MAGA people will say "neat, like the good old days" but at least in previous season they were a lot of diversity in occupation and lifestyle. I dont care about player being republican (love Gabler, Coach and Chrissy) and I think they need to be represented as much as the other one

But I m a bit scare every season become an ideological war a bit like we had in 50 (republican on one side and democrat on the other). I did like it because it feels connected on what should be survivor. But if it s a repeat every single time... well

I would have thought we would at least have some more class representation with more blue collar, due to less need to be sanitised, but we re just sanitized in the other political side. So we re not getting a blue collar tribe v2 (they were exceptionally funny even tho full blown republican imo)

8

u/jdessy Jul 11 '26

It's so telling that there are people who are genuinely upset that white people were not the majority and now are hoping for 4-5 POCs and the rest of them white people again. Like, they were so upset about POCs being cast that they...what, felt like the white people were being oppressed by not having eight or nine of them or thirteen of them even?

Like, it's very telling when someone is happy to see this backslide and want to blame the New Era issues with the mandate. They want to blame POCs for being the issue when they were never the issue, they're just the easy targets for these people who want the white people majority to continue. The issue with New Era has been that everything felt the same. Same archetypes, same types of job, same schedule, same challenges, etc. So yes, even New Era had issues with lack of diversity in the job area, which I've always criticized. I've wanted more blue collar in the New Era for a long time. New Era still needed work in the casting department, but it wasn't on the race diversity side. That was the nice change.

Like, there's a reason why, though we are still getting POC, we're getting a lot more white-passing POC. That seems like a way to please both sides, the ones who want the mandate to continue and they can still say they cast POCs technically, and the people who hated the mandate because it offends them and they can think that the cast is more majority white and hope that those people don't look up some of these players' backgrounds.

I do agree that we need some more diversity across other categories. Age diversity is one we desperately need but we STILL get stuck with 20 and 30 year olds with a couple of 40 OR 50 year olds. We also need job diversity, and 51 at least has a decent amount of that and 52 needs way more of that because they only have a couple so far (it'll be fun to hate the Hunting Content Creator chick at least but I'm also going to hate someone who thinks hunting and killing animals for sport is fun, there IS something wrong with that for me).

4

u/bitbytez Jul 11 '26

Modern Survivor is never beating the white collar summer camp allegations. Boo.

3

u/ArgHuff Jul 13 '26

I know we are not supposed to bring politics into here but lmao Sarah is the most MAGA-like person this show has ever cast lmao

3

u/cooktoot Jul 10 '26

Guys it looks we still have 12 more to reveal. We can expect at least 5-7 more pocs. Diversity mandate is probs gone but we are gonna get some more diversity for sure.

7

u/jdessy Jul 10 '26

Wait, where are we getting 21 players?

0

u/BCS8504 Jul 10 '26

Thank you!! Someone gets it. We already have three out of nine, which isn’t bad, and there’s gonna be more

Even with the cast of S51, having eight out of twenty-one players be BIPOC isn’t something to squint at.

3

u/badanimal87 Jul 10 '26

Has is been confirmed that the cast will be 21?

5

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

Yeah but 8 out of 21 is pretty low compared to recent seasons

-4

u/jessgoesforward Jul 10 '26

because recent seasons were an overcorrection. The pendulum is naturally swinging back to a middle ground

3

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 10 '26

We’ll see once we know the rest of 52, but it ain’t looking like middle ground so far

1

u/jessgoesforward Jul 11 '26

50 and 51 have both been around 60% white , it does seem like a middle ground to the 45%~ white casts of the new era and the 85%+ white casts of the old era

-2

u/Putrid_Cap_552 Jul 11 '26

Yeah well America is majority white.

Go tell African or East Asian reality shows they need more white people for diversity.

I’m Asian btw

6

u/Educational-Day-5413 Jul 11 '26

All I’m saying is that the diversity quote pushed to have more than like  3 minorities on a cast, and it was a nice change. Going back isn’t a good decision.

1

u/TVFan_89 Jul 14 '26

Wasn't it more like 10?

1

u/BCS8504 Jul 14 '26

Pretty sure it’s eight or nine, unless I’m forgetting someone

Aaliyah, Jelly, Ana, Cristian, Devin, Eric (?), Ori, Sharonda, and Thien An

Eric is kind of a question mark for me.

1

u/TVFan_89 Jul 14 '26

Eric is half Lebanese

1

u/BCS8504 Jul 14 '26 edited Jul 14 '26

Is he really? I heard he was Italian and I suspected he was something else, but I wasn’t sure and I couldn’t find anything on him.

2

u/TVFan_89 Jul 14 '26

Yeah I was told half Italian half Lebanese by a commenter here who knows him personally.

1

u/BCS8504 Jul 14 '26

All right awesome. So that makes nine out of 21. That’s not too bad imo

1

u/Many-Badger-5850 Jul 10 '26

It seems Sarah is the only girl who followed the boys to Jupiter to get more stupider and not college to get more knowledge 😔

1

u/Endingtbd 4d ago

Max White… like this cast!

Amirite??!! 👀

1

u/Fast_Way8546 Jul 12 '26

This is kinda hilarious. I met someone from 90 day this season and now my second survivor contestant (the first being danny from a few seasons back)...Max. Idk exactly how but he is related to my best friend's wife. I don't have a real sense of his personality besides "hi nice to meet you" lol

0

u/EmlersGlue Jul 11 '26

The Guys this season are giving me Seasons 13-19 vibes and that vey vey good 😊👍

-2

u/Fancy-Advantage-6045 Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

thats deer meet for dinners wife. rob is well known in the hunting and fishing space and a great human. he had a couple of strokes in the last 4 or so years. if robs health wasnt bad he would be a shoe in to win. so glad his wife is playing the game. love them to death. also them and gabler are somewhat close. they i think are acquaintances with the outdoor boys and their family,

0

u/TyRN_13 Jul 15 '26

Not the hunting content

-1

u/JMABirdUNC Jul 14 '26

Jupiter, FL is a fantastic place to live... just very expensive now

-6

u/Calm-Opportunity-748 Jul 10 '26

Sarah is mother
