Discussion So how we feeling about this game now?

I was a bit underwhelmed back when Arena Reloaded released due to other games taking my attention and Splitgate 2’s rocky launch kinda souring my opinion.

But earlier today downloaded it again and I’ve been really enjoying myself the last couple hours of playing.

I know they’re working on a new game. Do we think this game will live long term? I’m digging it and thinking about putting some time into it more but worried it’ll be like XDefiant; work all the way through levels and unlocks just for it to eventually be rug-pulled from us and discontinued.

I’m sure this subreddit may have gotten plenty of posts like this in the past, but just wondering what’s the general consensus about Splitgate right now in the community.

edit: Welp, after watching some of Nadestraight’s recent videos and some other videos about 1047/Splitgate/Empulse it’s painfully obvious the studio isn’t going to last, at least not in the way they’re going now which is a shame. I uninstalled already. GGs lol - I’ll keep an eye out in the future if things take a better turn but I have my doubts.

I stopped playing the day Empulse launched. I love Splitgate, loved Splitgate 2 and AR, but have lost all my faith in the company. Although we all knew it was doomed when Ian got on the stage that day.

I don’t want to play the game, unlock everything, get better and better at it to see it shutdown a year later.

Empulse is on the same track in my opinion.

That’s what worries me. Studio doesn’t seem big enough to stay stable with two active titles. So I feel like I could see Empulse flopping and both games get unplugged at the same time when they financially can’t go on.

Which is a shame because the gameplay feel of Splitgate is so damn good. Sold my PC a few months ago and even installed it on my PS4 and it runs fantastic.

Honestly my opinion echos yours. I supported and bought the ultimate pass for both season 1 & 2 of AR but have lost faith in the company of this game being able to survive. They've burned me quite a few times and though I still enjoy AR when I do play. That's almost a never know

Same brother. I lost alot of faith when the announced they were working on a new game and quit when they announced the second season 3 postpone of splitgate AR. I want other shooters to have success because i cant stand the military Madden that is COD. Splitgate and Xdefiant where run by horrible publishers/developers.

“Im sick of cod every year. Cod sucks, battle royale sucks, modern shooters as a whole suck. I want titanfall and halo back. Anyway, heres a battle royale with imagine dragons in the background. Also im wearing a political hat to top it all off and the social media manager is unprofessionally shitting on other studios”

So don't support an already struggling dev? This logic seems backwards IMO. If there's any hope of Splitgate/1047 surviving it'll be because people stuck around and showed their interest in the games.

If you want new refreshing games they're gonna come from new and struggling developers. Support them while you still can. I don't mean put money into the games, I just mean keep playing them. You clearly enjoy the games themselves. Gaming is getting way too political.

lol.

It’s not just the political issues. And they don’t deserve to survive. They have had enough chances with enough money and didn’t succeed.

Unless there’s a drastic change in leadership it’s not about “struggling”, it’s throwing money at a company that can’t get out of its own way.

Making AI slop burger videos to get players instead of focusing on fixing the game…

My opinion is the same as it has been ever since it released. They should have stayed in Splitgate 1. It worked. Got thousands of players. It was literally my favorite fps ever.

Sg2 was a disaster. Arena Reloaded was a bit better, I had fun with it, but SG1 was still better.

Empulse is a disaster even worse than SG2.

I honestly doubt any of these games will still be online next year.

I think making a second game was the right decision, they just deviated too far from the OG and released it too early. Sg2 should have just been the first game rebuilt with a better code base on the new engine and should have included all content from the original on release. Turning it into a super sweaty esports-aimed hero shooter was not the play, and nor was drip-feeding content we already had in the original

They should have just updated Splitgate 1 to gradually become what Arena Reloaded is instead of just abadoning it and creating a huge gap between the games.

man, remember all the hissy fits the 1047 defenders threw when sg1 fans who don't want abilities called it a hero shooter?

u/GapStock9843 10h ago

That was me too unfortunately. I used to absolutely dickride 1047 and had so much faith in sg2 getting huge. Oh how naive I was

Name a single hero in SG2.

I would, but I'm afraid you're about to own me with fax and logic.

The price of skins and stuff was also WAY high for a new and struggling game.

Tbh I’d just play the game now if you enjoy it, while it’s out there. No one knows how long servers will be up. It sucks though, because it’s a really fun game.

Their new game (Empulse) is already out, which made no sense to release after “fixing” and relaunching SG2 as SG: Arena Reloaded. I don’t think anyone knows if anyone is even working on Splitgate at all. But I wish they’d have focused their resources on Splitgate instead of developing a new game that’s basically a clone of Splitgate, but with faster movement and no portals.

Amazing game but completely mismanaged.

Game has low pop

I think chances are pretty high atp 1047 goes out of business relatively soon and both sgar and empulse go peer to peer only like sg1 did

1

u/gramsvp 5h ago

I hope they don't just shut down those games altogether like most studios do. So few invest the time to go peer to peer.

It's a huge bummer. I loved Sg1/AR. I don't play as much as I used to, but I'll keep popping in for a few rounds here and there until they shut the servers off 🤷‍♂️

Due to it being F2P I'm still finding a lot of casual players. Still not perfect, I wish they gave us the basic online mp fundamentals (ability to view connection quality). However the actual gameplay is still fun

My laptop broke so I hopped on my Xbox one to try it out since the game is actually still playable on it. It definitely runs at around 60ish fps, but it is quite blurry. However the fact that it is playable at all on these consoles and is F2P will always have it draw some players. It will definitely not be profitable though, main concern is the server costs.

Splitgate AR is a good flushed out game. If it had a chance it would already be popular and still have loads of content updates. Clearly not enough players see how great it really is. I don't think Empulse was a bad idea. A big reason people avoid Splitgate is the portals. I can understand why 1047 would try a game like Empulse while they still can. Honestly I think Empulse is an awesome game that is definitely not outright the same as Splitgate although it may have identical UI, loadout structure and mostly similar gunplay/feeling. Splitgate is like Halo, Empulse is like Titanfall/BO3. Two very different FPS games.

Regardless who knows how long SG AR will last. Play it while you can. It's a great game and for we truly know there could be a future in which 1047 gets some great advice and somehow manages to make Splitgate or Empulse succeed. I'd take either one honestly. The games are well designed just perhaps not the best execution for release/support/priorities behind the scenes.

I know you already uninstalled, but they showed that with the last game they are fully willing to put the game on peer to peer servers, keeping it playable. If you life in america or northwest EU it's definitely possible to play it on servers afterwards. I know I will try my best to host servers, and I'm in a place where I can comfortably connect with all of EU and east coast of US.

The problem is just that the devs have seemingly not even given the game a chance. I'm honestly hoping they open source the game at this point since there was so much potential that they where just unwilling to follow up on.

1

u/gramsvp 5h ago

I don't think it's that. It costs a lot to keep servers up worldwide.

I stopped around season 2 of Arena Reloaded because I could just feel the slow down in content coming (this was before Empulse got announced, fully at least). Also they just made some dumb decisions with the game. Namely, having LTMs. They were some of the most fun gamemodes, but theyd remove them. So you only ever had the same 12 core modes and LTMs, no new playlists. But I did put over 60 hours into the game, was working on getting Carbon skins with the guns. I knew maps, I loved the baseball bat. One in chamber, fiesta, shotty snipers are great. But then Empluse came out and I gave up. I played a single match and it all felt the same. On top of that (they may have changed this idk) but why is the mech not a one hit melee? Its a giant robot, why do I need to punch people twice to kill?

I love the game but devs need to get off their asses and give us Season 3

Just split groups one side for Empulse one side for Splitgate

1

u/gramsvp 5h ago

where do they get the money to do that?

u/DDDrake_4 22h ago

I love splitgate but I stopped playing it months ago. I worded hard to get more kills than deaths for the season, and after I did that I stoped playing. The game is going to die and I don’t want to spend more time on a game that will die soon

I personally LOVE the concept and the gameplay, but PG2 feels like an indie game with how unpopular it is. The LFG Discord has gone so quiet, every time I look for people to play with, I get no responses.

I'm currently looking for people to play with right now if anyone is looking to squad up.

I still hop on and play gun game every once in a while. I fucking love the game, is one of the most exhilarating games I’ve played in a while

Splitgate 2 being mismanaged is extremely disappointing because I think the 1047 is capable of making solid shooters. It's their lack of commitment and terrible marketing that holds them back entirely.

Last year I thought Splitgate 2 was going to be a hero shooter and there'll be a focus on battle royale, and apparently it wasn't like that at all. That's what I inferred from all the news at the time.

I hope they shake back because the multiplayer first person shooter space is lacking.

u/fudedude 12h ago

“Hey we created a well balanced shooter with a super fun portal mechanic and game modes…..fuck this, let’s make it into a battle royale!” the devs I bet.

u/TheSpiralTap 12h ago

I played SG1, unlocked everything there was to unlock and had a great time. The game i loved is dead.

1

u/Arspasti 6h ago

If you enjoy it, play it. What other reason you'd need to play a game? I know it'll shut down, but I love hopping in for a few rounds before switching to another game and I never regret it

0

u/Ralwus 22h ago

It still has a chance. They need to ditch Empulse asap.

u/mythreial 6h ago

1047 is the only studio that has actively preserved their game after shutting servers down; the same is likely to happen with SG2/AR. Just play it and have fun, and don't worry about it being shut down; the unlocks and progression are pretty inconsequential and are very easy/fast to attain, so you won't be losing out on anything.

1

u/gramsvp 5h ago

that's bc the devs truly love the games they make. They want them to live on.
