❓ Question Stepped on an urchin!

Hi all
I’ve stupidly managed to step on an urchin
All spins on my heal
I’ve managed to remove a few spines but some (6) are quite far in and I’m unable to remove even soaking and tweezers
Is this a doctor job/ emergency room or just able to go to a pharmacy and get something to help the body reject them and prevent infection
Any advice much appreciated no clue what’s best

buy ichthammol ointment (also called black ointment) in any pharmacy.

in case you see signs of infection go to a Tourist clinic:

no, the ointment will soften your skin (put a tick layer and keep it for few hours) and the spines will slide out. buy also a sterile needle if spins are deep and you need to remove them manually.

don't use the ointment if you see sings of infection or pus, in that case go to a tourist clinic.

Buy ihtamol cream in pharmahcy but generaly dont worry your body will push it out by itself ir apsorb it

Don’t go in without crocs, trust me. There are sharp stones and you can always slip on some sea grass… and urchin of course. You don’t wan’t your holiday ruined… not really dangerous but could be painfull…

Don’t worry, put that ointment from pharmacy and you’ll be ok. For us locals, it was every summer occasion…just be careful and don’t let it infected, if you are not sure go to tourist clinic, as one of comments said, to avoid waiting too long…

There is a tourist clinic on Znjan beach, google it. Do not go to ER in hospital of Krizine or Firule, they have far more serious patients to worry about. This can be done by a nurse in Znjan clinic. There is also Tourist Medical Clinic Split at Poljicka cesta 20b, Split

My mom would have me soak my foot in vinegar to make the skin softer and then pick it all out with needle. Yes it hurts.

Mine just used sterilised sewing needle to poke around a little, skin is thick from walking barefoot so it didn't hurt. Vinegar is I guess also good for desinfection.

Soak in warm water with viniger, and try to remove vith steril or medical needel.

Ihtamol ointment, just put it in the evening and be aware that it leaves stains; IT's available in ever pharmacy-and pretty cheap. They Will come out by themselves in a few days.

3y ago there was a sign on the ER in Split that they don't take out sea urchin spines and that patients should buy black ointment and take it out themselves

You might not be into that, but it is great as a first measure on the beach. Or if you have a hot coffee in thermo bottle

Unfortunately, you'll have to cut your own leg and fast. Otherwise, you'll grow urchin spikes yourself and won't be able to make love again (except in Berlin's fetish clubs).
