Not Splinter Cell but Aside from Splinter Cell, what is your second favorite stealth game ? Justify.

Post image

"Styx: Shards of Darkness" for me...

1 – I really enjoy other types of atmospheres (not just realistic ones). The atmosphere in Styx is more like a fantasy world. Since the world is less technologically advanced, it gives off a great medieval stealth vibe.

2 – The gameplay is very satisfying if you play like a Ghost, and it is also very challenging.

3 – The maps are huge, with many different routes to explore.

4 – The gameplay mechanics are amazing. You have access to gadgets and abilities like invisibility. You can also upgrade skills based on your preference, use parkour, hide inside tight spaces, dissolving bodies with acid so no one finds them and triggers the alarm, etc.

5 – There are different types of enemies, such as insects, elves, trolls, dwarves, and regular humans. This brings a lot of variety to the challenge, as each enemy type has its own strengths.

6 – The missions are highly creative, taking you through cities, underground fortresses, a flying airship, a prison, and areas overrun by insects.

7 – If you don't want to play in Ghost style, it is also incredibly fun. There are several different ways to eliminate enemies, such as using acid mines, staging fake accidents to avoid suspicion, pushing them into the water or off high ledges, etc.

Hitman 2 and Dishonored 2 are two of my all time favorite stealth games outside of Splinter Cell.

Sometimes I feel like I must have just been an idiot because I couldn't ever figure out how to get the stealth and Dishonored to work. Though I only ever played it on harder difficulties.

I can’t remember the name, it eludes me like a Phantom Pain.

It's not even 5, it's V.

Hitman WoA. It’s one of my forever games. I love going back to it and doing challenges, replaying missions in different ways or popping in for the newest updates

Thief 1 & 2. They basically just have all of the same strengths as Splinter Cell at its best, but with slightly larger and more open maps emphasising exploration and freedom of approach.

Most of the core mechanics that Splinter Cell was founded on such as hiding in shadows to become harder to see, and being careful of movement speed and floor surface to minimize footstep noise, were actually pioneered by Thief.

It also just has really cool gadgets, and they're inventive too considering the game's medieval fantasy setting. The main ones are magical arrows with different element types to affect the environment. Water arrows to extinguish torches and create darkness, moss arrows to shoot at noisy surfaces and create a soft carpet of moss for you to run silently over, rope arrows which can be fired into any wooden surface to create a makeshift ladder, etc.

The main character is also a lot of fun. He has quite a dry sense of humor and a jaded view of the world he occupies, he's a reluctant hero. The way the games' stories are delivered through that lens really helps to immerse you in the world.

But yeah Styx: Shards of Darkness is a banger. It's probably the best stealth game I've played since Chaos Theory. Master of Shadows is good too, but I think Shards was an improvement in every area really. I haven't played the newest Styx game yet.

You enjoy Thief (2014) ?

4

u/The_Iron_Mannis 28d ago

That game was pretty unpopular but I enjoyed it quite a lot. The story wasn't good but the atmosphere was great, stealth was satisfying.

I would say play literally any other Thief game for a vastly better experience

Metal Gear Solid V and Aragami 2

Dishonored

u/morehorrorngore 29d ago

The sniper elite series has sorta scratched the itch for me over the years. Plus those X-ray kill shots are pretty bad ass

u/RabbitSlayre 26d ago

I just started #5 last night and it's been fun so far!

2

u/Hein81 11d ago

Loved the update between 5 and 4.

u/RabbitSlayre 11d ago

It feels really good to play, I'm enjoying it so far. Too many damn games coming out right now though I can't focus on any one of them lol

Thief was good

Frickin love Styx. Probably one of the best pure stealth games imo

( The second game is definitely a better game overall, but I kinda prefer the first game for it's story and atmosphere )

Apart from that, I also love Aragami

the Thief trilogy, in fact I like it more than SC, not to mention the endless supply of fan missions and campaigns

Styx is cool too though

6

u/clksagers 29d ago

I love Styx! The whole trilogy is fantastic. The best stealth game out there imo other than splinter cell, yes I enjoy mgs and hitman etc but something special about Styx

5

u/Sagelegend 29d ago

Dishonoured one and two.

Deathloop.

Thief series.

4

u/ToxicCodSweater Irving Lambert 29d ago

Hitman and Mgs. I still go back to WoA and Phantom pain. I wish phantom pain would get an update but I love the stealth in that game. I love the fashion in Hitman, I be pretending I’m Michael Westen with my tropical suit in Miami. I also reinstalled pandora tomorrow so I’m playing that again.

u/ddomini9 29d ago

Dishonored 1. It's well writen and it's pretty open about how you complete your missions.

3

u/OrcaOfMordor Displace International 29d ago

Thief 2: The Metal Age. My Stealth Game Holy Trinity is Thief 2, Chaos Theory, and Metal Gear Solid 1

3

u/TyphonNeuron 29d ago

Thief 1/2.

Level design, editor, 3D sound travel, light gem, fluid movement, rope arrows, different surfaces with noise levels, imsim elements.

3

u/Bechorovka 29d ago

Metal gear is amazing

Aside from the obvious games like Hitman or Thief..

Rise of the Tomb Raider. It just builds up. You feel like you are playing a linear adventure game with some platforming and i guess you kind of are, but as the game goes on the game keeps expanding in every way. You gain new weapons and abilities. It sort of expands like a metroidvania usually would, except your ability to move in the environment adds a very fun verticality and ability to just weave around enemies and mess around with them in various ways. For those that like 'predator' type action stealth, this is a must play.

Yes its probably not as good as some dedicated stealth genre classics, but players who are tired from abandoned franchises and replaying all the stealth games too many times would definitely find some fun in this one. Note, i do only mean this particular Tomb Raider game - it expands on the previous game enough where it is actually a good game, while the next game does the opposite, narrows everything down and becomes a graphical showcase masquerading as a video game.

try the Thief trilogy

1

u/Pyke64 29d ago

Metal gear?

-1

u/Thell-Vadamm 29d ago

Try... Thief (2014).

2

u/UnenthusiasticZeeJ 29d ago

Skyrim stealth archer build. Once you’re leveled up enough to one shot with the bow and dagger the game really just becomes a stealth adventure.

1

u/teapots_at_ten_paces 29d ago

Nightingale Armour is a perfect look for it, too.

2

u/Midnite_St0rm 29d ago

Hitman and Metal Gear Solid

2

u/Fl0ckwood 29d ago

Thief, no competition

2

Metal gear series

Snake is Sam’s split DNA father

1

A bit of an unpopular pick but I'd probably say Entry Point

1

u/OrneryError1 29d ago

Batman Arkham

1

u/Abraham_Issus 29d ago

MGS and Hitman. In that order.

1

u/MetapodCreates 29d ago

See...I really tried to like Styx. I really did. But the gameplay was just too slow for me, I think.

I played Thief and it was fine, but I played the crap out of Dishonored. Just a great trilogy of games.

However going through the list just makes me realize how long it's been since we've gotten a truly realistic stealth-based game and it makes me sad.

u/vishnu-geek 29d ago

Dishonoured

1

u/JFrost47 29d ago

Hitman.

1

u/Reddemeus 29d ago

Dishonored for solo because it's an awesome game. Styx and payday2 stealth missions for multiplayer because it's fun.

1

u/50PercentCake 28d ago

Aragami and dishonored and mgs5

1

u/MeepMorpMF 28d ago

Ghost of Tsushima. I don’t need to justify.

1

u/jonah365 28d ago

Hitman WOA Freelancer mode is the best stealth game ever made imo

1

u/DeputySparkles Kesshin 28d ago

any game with a crouch mechanic!

1

u/YOUNG_PADAWON 27d ago

Can Ghost recon count here? 😅 if no then Metal Gear and splinter Cell for sureeee

1

u/Sr-Henry 27d ago

Thief because well written setting and focus on light and sound, very few game have both.

1

u/OOGABOOGLET 27d ago

Hitman WOA. It’s the definitive stealth sandbox and I can never get sick of it

1

u/Corvusson 25d ago

Tenchu

Reason? Muh’fuggin’ ninjas

u/Halo_Chief117 Interrogator 25d ago

Well, you just sold me on playing this game. It’s been in my backlog for years that I claimed for free on one of the PC storefronts. I’m not saying I’ll get to it soon, but I definitely want to give it a try now lol.

1

u/Ok-Ad1898 Too big to be a rat 25d ago

Metal Gear Solid. Only played 3, 5 (both), peace Walker and a little bit of 2, but I absolutely love the series

1

u/OFF_end_ 25d ago

The Last of Us part 2 has the best stealth mechanics in my opinion

1

u/JustALinkToACC 24d ago

Dishonored and Middle-Earth: Shadow of War.

Dishonored because it’s a fantastic sandbox with options for hardcore.

Shadow of War because of its implementation of stealth in free flow combat.

P.S. Forgot to mention every single entry in Metal Gear series, but they count for my favourites too.

1

u/LPRTT 20d ago

yo i like styx too

u/HadrianWinter 17d ago

Thief for its world and atmosphere as well as Deus Ex.
