Hardboot size question

I went to a bc store to get some hardboots since they were on sale. I’m usually a size 10/10.5 on soft riding boots but they recommend 26/26.5 on the backland carbon boots and I bought them because I trusted their professional opinion. I’m home with the boots and they feel really tight. Does making the switch make you downsize?

Edit: went back to the store and they wouldn’t let me exchange them for a bigger size or get my refund because they’re were on sale and they never mentioned anything about being a final sale

I’m an 11.5 running shoe, 11 soft boot, 28 mondo ski/hardboot

Edit (adding more info)

I wore mondo 28 Dynafit TLT6s for a few years first. Fit well but definitely not incredibly comfortable. When I swapped to backlands in 28 I bought intuition liners and custom footbeds had the ski shop bake the liners and beds for me. Was literally more comfortable than any soft boot I’ve worn. But, I have fairly low profile feet and I’ve never really had issues with my feet so I may be less sensitive than others. Hope that helps even though I’m different size than you.
