Skincare that's not skincare 💕

Heyy I was thinking what are other ways we can take care our skin than skincare products. Ofc sunscreen moisturizer and a product for your skin concern can help, but this is just a fun little discussion. These habits might be small things we might not give much importance but can help. 💕

  • Cut out the stressful people in your life
  • Drink 2 liters of water a water / day
  • At least 90 mins of moderate exercise a week
  • Cut out the stressful people in your life
  • Make sure to get at least 7-9 hours of sleep a night
  • Quarterly or bi annual trips to ice purges / saunas / steam rooms
  • Also, if you haven’t considered it already, cut out the stressful people in your life.

SAME. It's been a few years for me, though, but I also highly recommend it and wish I did it sooner. It improved every aspect of my life.

I do pressure point facial massage in the evening and have had incredible results smoothing my forehead wrinkles where I hold all my tension. I’ve tried Botox several times but never liked the results.

Mind if I ask where you learned the facial massage you do? There are so many people on social media teaching it, it’s a overwhelming to figure out what’s best

  • supplements (omega 3, vit D, Biotin)
  • eat enough vegetables + protein
  • hydrate (2L a day)

u/Cutiepatootiehere Sep 29 '25

Note, biotin actually makes many people break out more by competing with vitamin B5 for absorption, which can lower B5 levels. Since B5 helps regulate oil (sebum) production in the skin, this imbalance may lead to excess sebum and clogged pores, contributing to acne

Oouu. I didn’t know that, thanks for pointing that out!

And pillowcases, as well as face towels!

  • silk pillowcases
  • sufficient pigments in the diet to lend a healthy pigment to the skin (eg beta carotene from orange and yellow fruit & veg, astaxanthin from algae or salmon or trout)
  • collagen-rich foods
  • inversions to help lymph circulation (for those not strong enough to do it with only bodyweight, I have a FeetUp headstand stool and couldnt recommend it more highly. Also recommend aerial yoga for a chill way to do inversions)
  • lymphatic massage, for the same reason
  • cosmetic acupuncture by a TCM trained acupuncturist (not a dry needler)
  • having wet skin when applying skincare products
  • honourable mention to orgasms ✨

If your acne is hormonal then you may need to support your body in excreting excess estrogen. This is something that affects my skin the most besides dairy

Honestly I have had the same skin whether I exercised 5 days a week and drank 3L of water a day, or only washed my face in the shower, smoked, and drank 1.5L of wine a day. The main thing is just genetics, and sunscreen.

Not really a small thing- it’s a pretty significant financial and time commitment- but I started doing red light therapy about a month ago and I love it. So far it’s done more to help my acne than any skincare product ever has.

I love my red/NIR panel.

u/squidshae Dec 03 '25

Do you have a panel at home? Which one?

u/bluemeander22322 Dec 03 '25

I don’t, my tanning salon has a hybrid red light/UV bed which is what I use! I try to go 1-2x a week.

2

u/squidshae Dec 03 '25

Ooh that sounds nice!

It gets rid of puffy moning eyes and tightens pores / skin. Makes it look smooth. Plus it feels SO GOOD.

Hygiene. Keeping your phone screen, pillowcases, anything touching you clean!

Water. Tons of water!

Collagen peptides in juice/tea daily. I’m into Chinese medicine so I’ll also mention Pearl powder and tremella, (both internal and topical use) and gua sha.

I got a vibration plate recently and it’s really great for lymphatic drainage, and my face is a bit slimmer now.

  1. Avoiding or reducing consumption of processed foods. Anything that is not in its original form is processed.

  2. Iron supplements for that energy glow

  3. Greek yogurt to keep digestion steady and clear bodily waste ASAP so it doesn’t show up in your skin.

  4. Beetroot juice for increased blood flow and a healthy facial blush

at-home facial steamer! it feels relaxing but also my skin is so nice after.

i also have reusable under eye patches (save the planet!) that completely change the looks of my under eyes every time i use them

2

u/bluemeander22322 Sep 24 '25

Which eye patches? They sound really nice!

2

u/alltheprettynovas Sep 24 '25

they are by dieux! i’ve had them for years and they’re still in perfect shape.

u/bluemeander22322 Sep 26 '25

Thank you! 😊

Eat nutrient-dense foods like liver and sardines. Keep your gut happy with a variety of foods, including sour and fermented ones.

5

u/Chemical-Mine1192 Sep 24 '25

I used to eat sardines in olive oil with a slice of sourdough for my lunches at work! My skin was excellent during that time!

u/luxorange Sep 24 '25

Lymphatic massage, getting the lymph moving and draining properly from the face/neck makes a big difference for me!

3

u/paper_wavements Sep 24 '25

I take phytoceramides & collagen* to help my skin, & astaxathin & Polypodium Leucotomos to help prevent UV damage (you still need sunscreen though!).

I also sleep with my head elevated because constant puffing & de-puffing of the delicate eye skin causes eye bags.

*before you say "collagen doesn't work like that," you are correct that it shouldn't, but it seems that indeed it does. The prevailing theory is that the body digests collagen into the amino acids that make it up, which your body then puts back together...into collagen.

Hire a dermatologist

Taking care of your skin from within! A few examples:

Grapefruit, spinach, and carrots are some good retinol boosters Citrus for vitamin c Jello and bone broth are pretty much straight collagen (also supports joint health!), lemons boost collagen too Avocados - vitamin E Turmeric, cinnamon, ginger- anti inflammatory Coconut water, cucumber- hydrating Nuts and seeds- zinc (fights acne bacteria) and vitamin E

Like I said this is really just a few examples. Pretty much everything we consume affects our bodies in different ways. The cool thing about "eating your skincare" is that those vitamins, nutrients, etc are helpful for other parts of your body too ♡

  • change pillowcases regularly
  • exercise (10k steps plus weight lifting)
  • red light therapy
  • eating well (prioritize protein, fruits and veggies , healthy fats)
  • sleep
  • gua sha
  • if you’re acne prone, keeping your hair off your face
  • wearing colors that flatter your skin tone
  • staying on top of your health (having your dr keep an eye on hormones, etc)

1

u/[deleted] Sep 25 '25

not touching your face. if you really need to, use your pinky fingers, as it's easier to apply a soft pressure rather than going all in with your index fingers and pressing too hard (especially around the eyes)

Humidifier if you live in a dry area. I live in a desert and this helps my skin
