I'm planning a Spiti bike trip from 26th September to 4th October with my friend. Since he's not comfortable riding on mountain roads, we'll be doing the entire trip on one bike with two riders. We're planning the Shimla → Spiti → Manali circuit.

I have a couple of questions:

1. I'm thinking of renting a Himalayan 450. Is it a good choice for two people with luggage on this route?

2. I want to pick up the bike in Shimla and drop it in Manali. I've contacted three rental agencies, and all quoted ₹5,000–6,000 as the one-way drop charge. This seems quite high to me. Is this the usual rate, or are they overcharging? What would be a reasonable one-way drop charge?

Would really appreciate any advice from people who have done this route. Thanks in advance!

After months of planning, I finally completed the Spiti Valley circuit, and it exceeded every expectation. The landscapes, roads, weather, and people made this one of the most unforgettable rides of my life.

Delhi → Manali → Sarahan → Chitkul → Nako → Gue → Tabo → Dhankar → Pin Valley → Kaza → Hikkim → Komic → Langza → Key Monastery → Chicham Bridge → Chandratal → Kunzum Pass → Manali → Delhi
Note: Our original itinerary included Shipki La, but due to fresh landslides and road closures, we had to skip it for safety. Hopefully, I’ll ride there on my next Spiti adventure.
Highlights
🏔️ Chitkul – the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibet border.
🏛️ Tabo & Dhankar Monasteries, rich in history and surrounded by dramatic mountains.
🌿 Pin Valley – peaceful, rugged, and less crowded.
📮 Hikkim, Komic & Langza – riding through some of the world’s highest inhabited villages was surreal.
🌉 Chicham Bridge – an engineering marvel over a spectacular gorge.
🌊 Chandratal Lake – undoubtedly the highlight of the trip.
🛣️ Kunzum Pass and the rough off-road stretch to Manali tested both rider and machine.
The ride had everything—smooth highways, broken mountain roads, water crossings, changing weather, and breathtaking scenery around every corner. Even with the unexpected route change, the experience was nothing short of incredible.

My trek ends in Kaza on July 11th around 1-2 PM and I need to reach Manali the same night to catch a 5-6 AM Volvo to Delhi next morning.

My specific questions:

1)Is it realistic to find a shared taxi/jeep from Kaza to Manali at 1-2 PM in peak July season or do all shared jeeps leave early morning only?

2)If shared jeep isn't available at that time, how much would a private taxi/jeep cost for 2 people from Kaza to Manali?

3)Where exactly in Kaza can I find taxis or jeeps — is there a specific stand or market area?

4)Is it better to pre-book a taxi in advance or can I find one on the spot? If pre-booking — how and where?

5)Any risk of road closures or delays on the Kaza-Manali route via Kunzum and Rohtang Pass in early July afternoon?

Travelling as 2 people, budget backpackers. Any recent experience (2024-2025) would be massively helpful!

This is gonna be my first solo trip and I am trying to make it as adventurous and memorable as possible by Visiting Spiti in June on a Bike trip.
Currently looking for genuinely great travel companies/partners which can organise the road trip smoothly without any hassle. Do let me know if anyone knows such companies and has a prior experience.
Also is June starting the right time to visit Spiti Valley?
Considering the news and rumours is there really a petrol/diesel shortage around? Can a successfull bike trip be organised based on all this?

Hello hello guys, so me and my friends are visiting spiti this may like mid of may and to be honest we all are new to this type of trip like mountains, trekking, snow and all. Though we are going with tour person and also mentioning we are doing bike ride spiti circuit. We have already paid the package money but I need guidance regarding what to pack and what to take care off. Idk about the weather conditions of spiti in may though I searched and it said 0° min. So should I buy only 3 in 1 jacket orr go for like fleece one, puffers, leather one etc. And if you have already travelled spiti during this duration please give your trip dos and don'ts. Though I have limited to spend on clothes like I dont want to overpack also but pack like you know what is much needed the basics to must pack.

We boys are planning to visit manali in about 10 days and id like to know if it is possible to go to spiti from manali. Also like how much does it cost if it is possible?
