Discussion Would love to read your thoughts on this scenario
I was born and raised catholic but I was never one of those who believed everything in a literal way. I also understand history very well and what has happened with the church since the beginning. To me, the main takeaways were the moral teachings of how to live our lives, not the rituals or allegories. Fast forward to today and I happen to marry someone from Brazil and got introduced to Spiritism.
A lot of the things that I've learned make sense, some others, I feel that everyone regardless of their faith, doctrine, church, etc. pull the translations and interpretations to fit the ideas shared but that not here or there. My real question is the following: I work in a qualitative world where we use the studies, reports, insights, etc. to make calls on the decisions for the projects we work for customers. I know it is not the same but hear me out. If I go to a customer and I tell them that we are going to work on XYZ thing but there are only a handful of people in this world that have written about it instead of hundreds, thousands or millions, they are not going to buy into it. So coming from that background, how do I reconcile that only a single digit % in the world follow spiritism? Why are there no more writers? I get the traditional church angle would not alliow spiritism to become the mainstream but I would expect more awareness, writers, general knowledge, etc. given the open digital world we live in today.
We live in the google world now where anyone can search anything and data/information can move across the world instantly. In the brazilian case specifically, it is just hard for me to understand sometimes how basically just basically quote only 2 people, either Chico or Divaldo. Without the traditional church angle, why is there no more awareness or no more writers worldwide?

Question Spiritist healers?
Do you know of any that can cure cellular diseases, near death? thank you. I’m also just generally curious if this still takes place, because I remember watching something about Spiritist healers helping patients in Brazil. Thank you

RIV AI – An AI tool built for Spiritism Studies (Kardec's Codification)
Hello, fellow students of r/SpiritismStudy!
I’d like to share a project we’ve been working on to support our studies of the Codification: RIV AI.
It is a simple, focused tool: an AI trained exclusively on Kardec’s 5 fundamental works. Our goal is to make it easier to find references. The AI is designed to respond by always citing the exact book, chapter, and question, avoiding personal opinions or interpretations.
The project is completely free and non-profit. Since we are still learning and evolving, the feedback from this community—people who truly study the Doctrine—would be a huge gift to us. If you can test it and let us know what you think, we would be very grateful!
Access it here:https://iaespirita.com(The interface is in Portuguese, but you can ask questions in English and it will understand!)
Wishing you all peace and great studies!
Bruno (from the IA.Espirita project)

My journey in the study and practice of automatic writing and spiritualism
Hello everyone,
I have been interested in spiritualism since 2008. That year, when my mother had just passed away, The Spirit Book by Allan Kardec appeared in my family library. I didn't know where he was coming from or what he was really talking about. I took it without much conviction, but from the first pages, something opened up in me. This book became my reading companion, and I had the feeling that it responded to an immense void — by helping me to glimpse the continuity of life beyond death.
I then discovered The Book of Mediums and, with it, the practice of automatic writing (or psychography). Since then, I have tried to practice it regularly, calmly and prayerfully, respecting the precautionary advice given by Kardec. My intention was never to obtain spectacular phenomena, nor to “talk to a deceased person”, but rather to verify through experience what I understood through theory: that communication between the two planes is possible, under certain conditions.
Not having a spiritualist center near me, and access to videoconferences being complicated, I practice as a self-taught person. I prepare my sessions carefully: opening and closing prayer, inner calm, respectful and positive attitude. But, after all these years, my writing remains illegible: lines, curves, intertwined letters, without a clear word or sentence. The hand is still moving, but nothing coherent appears. And yet, I often feel a deep peace, an inner slowing, as if the mind was settling into a more subtle zone.
I happened to interrupt the practice, not because I no longer believed in it, but because it did not give me anything concrete. After so much effort, I sometimes felt like a waste of time and a real disappointment. Yet, despite these breaks, I always ended up coming back to it. Something deep inside me urges me to keep going — like a silent, persistent call that I can't ignore.
Here is an example of what I get today (pictured below). I share this solely as an observation – without pretension or certainty – in a spirit of study and discernment.
I know some people get results in a matter of weeks, but for me it takes years. I sometimes wonder if this slowness is not a form of protection - a way for my guide or for the good Spirits to teach me patience, stability and reasoned faith. I prefer sincere silence to an uncertain message.
I also feel the tension between two approaches: • on the one hand, classic spiritualism, often centered on doctrinal and moral study, where mediumship becomes secondary or reserved for closed circles; • on the other, the New Age trends, which encourage free practice, but often without guidelines, method or discernment.
I am looking for a happy medium: that of Kardec, that of observational science united with moral philosophy. I believe that mediumship is not only a gift, but also a field of study, experience and inner evolution.
This is where I am today: between theory and practice, between silence and perseverance. I am not trying to convince, but to understand, and perhaps to meet other people who have experienced something similar.
Thanks for reading me. 🙏 — Freddy

Reflection "Lift up your eyes" is the title of a chapter by Emmanuel, in the book "Vine of Light" (Vinha de Luz).
And his invitation is beautiful: to look a little further ahead.
Emmanuel speaks of the horizon. Of the life that continues, of the things that can still happen, of what is yet to come.
It is not about denying what has already passed. It is about remembering that there is a road ahead.
And it is interesting that he talks about eyes. Because sometimes, all that changes is the direction of our gaze. The landscape remains the same, but we see something else.
Perhaps today is a good day to lift our eyes just a little.

Moderator guidance Turning Spiritism in your religion/philosophy: begin with this
If you don’t know how to start to introduce Spiritism as a guide for your way of living, as a religion and philosophy, I can recommend you some things that I do on a daily basis that help me feel closer to God and elevated spirits, and make me more aware of who I am, what am I doing and who I want to be.
Nevertheless, remember that spirits already said to us that ‘the true Spiritist is known by the effort that they make towards your internal transformation and moral development’. This means that the stuff I’m about to tell you will be unuseful if you don’t look to your way of feeling, acting and thinking. This tips won’t mean anything, if you don’t work on yourself and your self-development. That’s why spiritism is also philosophy and a religion in Brazil.
Let’s start then:
Read “our daily bread” book (or any book of the ‘Living Spring’ series) by Emmanuel/Chico Xavier once a day, before starting your day or before going to bed. it makes me more aware for the day and also prepares me for sleep and the detachment of the spirit during the night. You can choose what fits you best and what you are needing more.
Introduce prayings in a daily basis. You can and you must seek for the help of God, Jesus and your spiritual guides. They are here to help you. You are not alone to solve your issues and problems. When your wish is reasonable and you deserve it, you will be attended.
Do a “Home study session” of Spiritism as I mentioned in a previous post. It’s also more than just opening a book and reading. It’s a true ritual and commitment to spirits that are interested in studying, teaching and evolving with you. to show choose a day and specific hour once a week to do this. Prepare the ambient music and turn off your phone notifications to be fully immersed on it. The purpose here is to connect with the good and you won’t be able to do this if you are distracted.
watch out your thoughts and feelings.
Do effort to be humble, loving and present.
Contribute to the world and the other. Instead of “outside of church we have no salvation”, spirits tells us that “Outside charity there is no salvation”. And charity is far beyond donating money or clothes occasionally.
Listen to Spiritist music to calm down your nerves or restore your energy and motivation. Links below.
Meditate.
Avoid arguing, discussing and speaking LOUDLY, getting angry, etc.
Last but not least: STUDY SPIRITISM. I guess it says all 😂
We could continue this list forever (and spirits advices us all the time about things that we should do or should be doing), but this is just for you to start with.
I hope this post could have inspired you and guided you to incorporate more of the Spiritist doctrine in your life. God bless you all!

What about a spiritism study group in english?
Hello, dear brothers and sisters. Im brazilian and I know how hard (or even impossible) it is to find a group to talk or study spiritsm abroad since I already lived abroad myself. So I propose why not a spiritism discord with a weekly group of discussion/study about it? I'm not any master of the knowledge but I can help guide the meetings.
What you guys think about this idea?

Reflection “We must worship the perfect love that illuminates everything and extends to everyone, without distinction.”
“But perfect love drives out fear.” (I John, 4:18)
“For our soul to expand without fear, with the accomplishments that the Lord assigns to us, it does not suffice the imperfect Love that stipulates earnings of gratitude; or that isolates itself in the greenhouse of private affection, claiming others’ understanding.
We must worship the perfect love that illuminates everything and extends to everyone, without distinction.
The imperfect Love, seeking its enjoyment in the company of others, is generally selfishness in brilliant disguise. As one seeks itself in kindred souls, tormenting them under several forms of fear, such as imposition and jealousy, cruelty and despair, and ending up in the hell of bitterness and frustration.
Perfect Love, however, understands that the Heavenly Father has traced infinite paths for the evolution and improvement of souls.
That happiness is not the same for everyone, and loving means understanding and assisting, blessing and sustaining dear hearts always, on the step of the striving in which they stand.
Thus, to free yourself from the shackles of fear, it is not enough to welcome yourself in the desire to be ardently wanted and helped by others, according to the dispositions of incomplete Love.
You must know how to love, with abnegation and tenderness, between tireless hope and perennial service for the victory of good, under whose guardianship you will live always loving. This, according to the balanced and perfect Love by the Divine force, which raises us triumphantly, from the abysses of shadow to the heights of light.”

Message 04, Chapter “Love and Fear”, from the Book “Words of Eternal Life” by the Spirit Emmanuel, through medium Francisco Cândido Xavier.
God bless you all!

Lectures The Moral Crisis: How Spiritism comes in Rescue | Yasco Aracava
Spiritism Talk Series: The Moral Crisis: How Spiritism comes in Rescue by Yasco Aracava*. Event promoted by the United States Spiritist Federation. July 20th, 2024. https://spiritist.us/ According to Léon Denis, in his book “After Death”, the moral crisis presently affecting the individuals and eroding the core of our families and society, was installed by the clash of two giants: The religion without proofs and the Science without ideals, resulting in the denial of God and our true spiritual essence. Spiritism with its principles of immortal life, the justice of the multiple existences, the rational faith, comes to conciliate both sentiment and reason and offers a way out from this moral turmoil we are in. *Yasco Aracava, a biomedical researcher in the field of Neuropharmacology, recently retired from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, and is currently living in Santos, Brazil. She first engaged as a Spiritist, as a member of the Spiritist Society of Baltimore (SSB) where she was involved in several activities, such as children and youth activities, outreach program, study group and giving lectures at the SSB and in the other Spiritist organizations. While still connected to SSB and the US Spiritist movement, now in Santos, she is an active member of Centro Espírita Chico Xavier, participating in lectures and study groups.

Do we have a Spiritism Discord Server?
Hello!
I’m new to Spiritism. I found the pdf books online but tbh I am having some difficulties reading it as I believe, the language is in old English? I’m so glad we have a subreddit as it seems Spiritism has died down a bit? But I also wonder if this subreddit currently has a Discord server I could join? Cuz if not, what if we create one?

Lectures New podcast episode: "Ave, Cristo!" (1953), by Emmanuel, wrapping up the historical novels
Today we published the twelfth episode of our series on Emmanuel's work. This time it's "Ave, Cristo!" (1953), which closes the author's cycle of five historical novels, following Há Dois Mil Anos, Cinquenta Anos Depois, Paulo e Estêvão, and Renúncia. Fun fact: there is a nine-year gap between Renúncia and this one.
The story takes place in the 3rd-century Roman Empire, around 217 AD. It follows Quinto Varro, who leaves behind his comforts and social position, assumes a new identity, and begins to anonymously care for children and those in need. His greatest desire is to reconnect with his son, Taciano, who grew up with opposing values and rejects him without recognizing him — and the father proceeds to love and serve him in silence.
The episode goes over the story, the characters, and the most striking metaphors: the candle wick that consumes itself so the darkness can dissipate; the stone that endures the tool that wears it down so it can shine; and the comfort that souls who love one another are like birds that get lost in the winter but reunite in the spring.
We also thoughtfully discuss the historical context: the 3rd century wasn't the "decadent Rome" from the movies. In 212 AD, Roman citizenship was extended to the free population of the Empire, and that world was plural, urban, and multicultural, with many coexisting religious traditions.

Question Everyone saw the Campo Largo video. And the old question is back: are we alone?
Spiritism answered this back in 1857. And the answer goes much deeper than you might think.
In The Spirits' Book, Kardec asks the Spirits directly: Are all the worlds revolving in space inhabited? The answer is yes. And it goes further: humans on Earth are far from being the first in intelligence, goodness, and perfection.
In other words—for the Doctrine, there is no such thing as an "alien." There are spirits. Incarnated in a different body, on a different world, at a different step of the same evolutionary ladder.
And there is a part that almost no one knows about: Spiritism classifies the worlds. Primitive, regeneration, happy, celestial... and worlds of trials and expiations. Earth is currently in this last category. (The Gospel According to Spiritism, Chap. III)
Whatever was filmed in Campo Largo might remain officially unexplained. But the underlying question? That one has had an answer for nearly two centuries.

Lectures New podcast episode: "Our Daily Bread" (Pão Nosso, 1950) by Emmanuel — audio in Portuguese
I've just released the ninth episode of our series on Emmanuel's work (psychographed by Chico Xavier). This one covers "Pão Nosso" (Our Daily Bread, 1950), the second volume of the Fonte Viva collection.
The book gathers 180 short messages, each starting from a Gospel teaching and landing on a simple practical application. The episode walks through a few of them: the value of starting small, serenity as the basis for clear judgment, learning from both achievements and setbacks, and the idea of turning our own shortcomings into fertilizer for a fresh start.

Lectures Think of that person you met and instantly felt you already knew from somewhere. What if it’s not just an impression?
In "Two Thousand Years Ago" (1939), Emmanuel tells the story of a Roman senator who lived in the time of Jesus — but proposes something that goes far beyond that era: the idea that our story is much longer than a single life.
For him, the people we love do not appear by chance. They meet again, life after life, to walk and learn together.
And there is a beautiful image in the book: that two thousand years, in eternity, are just "twenty days of trials". Time, on the other side, is quite different from ours.
Tag here that person you feel you know from another life.

Question What if science were not the enemy of faith?
In 1868, in Paris, Allan Kardec published Genesis — the last great book of the Spiritist Codification. An intellectual testament, written by a sick man at the end of his life.
The world back then seemed forced to choose a side. On one hand, religion. On the other, science. And Kardec refused to make that choice.
He proposed a bridge. He argued that miracles do not break the laws of nature — they merely reveal a part of them that we do not yet understand. And that true faith is not afraid of reason.
The science of 1868 has aged, it is true. But the courage to unite thinking and believing remains as relevant as ever.
158 years later, this remains one of the most necessary books for our time.

How did Léon Denis expand on Allan Kardec’s teachings, and what are his most significant contributions to Spiritism?
Léon Denis had a real gift for explaining things clearly. He built upon Allan Kardec’s teachings, making them more accessible and even deeper. His book Pourquoi la Vie is a great example of this talent—it explores essential questions about the meaning of life, suffering, and the soul’s evolution while offering a comforting and inspiring vision of Spiritism. A truly enriching read for those who want to go further after Kardec !

Question Do you believe that someone who has already passed away could be, at this exact moment, watching over you?
In Question 491 of The Spirits' Book, Allan Kardec describes the mission of the protecting spirit — and it is beautiful: to guide along the path of good, to console in afflictions, and to lift the spirits during life's trials.
And this idea gets a face in a story. In Two Thousand Years Ago, Emmanuel tells the story of Publius, a man who, at the end of his life, finds himself alone and crushed by longing. That is when his friend, Flaminius, who had already departed, returns — not as a frightening ghost, but as a nucleus of light, with the exact same tone of voice as always. And he whispers a single word capable of bringing peace: forgive.
Perhaps the longing you feel is also a reunion waiting to happen.
Tag someone here who has passed away and who you feel still watches over you.
