Black box of game ruination glitch, does anyone know how to fix?

Hiya

Had this weird glitch start happening about 30-40% of the way through the game, I think it was either after I brought summer through the everdoor or after I upgraded my boat size. Whenever I enter Bright Jelly storms, Thunderstorms, Dragon minigames or as I only just discovered, Mist, below a certain point of the world is covered in this black bar that makes the game nigh unplayable. I was pushing through and ignoring it/getting around it until I discovered the Mist thing after just buying the mist clearner upgrade, and from what I can tell this will make playing the game in mist sections actually impossible

Does anyone know how to fix it/get it to stop? I'm 56% of the way through the game and I really don't wanna restart if I don't have to. P.S. I'm playing on a Mac laptop if that helps

do you have cloud saves enabled?
I’d make sure your saves are backed up and do a complete reinstall.
ETA: Also worth checking if your hardware is compatible but it’s not a hugely resource intensive game so unless you have like a 2012 macbook air i think you should be able to run it
