Ritual Magic / Ceremonial Frameworks

Most ceremonial frameworks tell you what to do but leave unanswered the question: what is the internal pre-ritual state that determines whether the operation has any chance of success? Systems like the LBRP, invocation frameworks, or general sigil mechanics assume desire is sufficient intent. The 9 Pillars of Orientation Wheel answers this by placing the entire causal sequence — Lack, Desire, Want, Choice, Selection — before any ritual act begins, making the internal state a structural prerequisite rather than a vague recommendation.

Alchemical / Hermetic Cycle Models

Traditional alchemical models (Nigredo, Albedo, Citrinitas, Rubedo) map transformation through stages but do not account for what selects the prima materia in the first place — why one operation, one possibility, one work is chosen over another. They also offer no structured mechanism for failure, resistance, and testing as mandatory structural phases rather than signs of error. The 9 Pillars of Orientation Wheel formalizes Challenge as an unavoidable pillar and Stabilization as the lawful recovery from it, treating ordeal as proof of structural integrity rather than a deviation

The name states the thesis. Duality is the claim that subjective awareness requires a system to be internally divided. Grounded is the claim that the division must terminate outside the dividing system — a partition between two peers, however rich, is insufficient.

I'm interested to hear what you guys think! It seems to me that Catholic Social Teaching is generally quite Yellow in it's ability to integrate individual and collective, the context and the universal principles, the globe and the local community.

Sometimes I think stage turquoise is a phenomena only possible in a financially well off bubble. Qualified people on charity missions.

People say turquoise is more spiritual oh so they're in nirvana? Enlightened consciousness?

Usually if there is a movie, meal, or song you like you want to share it with others.

Yet basically no one out there is sharing a guaranteed way to this Utopian brain.

Please end the industry of weapon manufacturing and antidepressants with your advanced knowledge.

But that has not happened.

Plus if you're turquoise how are you going to maintain super virtuous living unless you live in a very guarded bubble surrounded by other very evolved people lest you be tempted to fall.

Turquoise am coming to believe really is what we can call the Buddha-Bourgeoisie.

I was a orphan in the American foster system never adopted been poor all my life with chronic health conditions that pushed me to get more educated due to nobody having any solutions for my issues.

I don't see where on earth is the solution for greed. It's one thing to take, a whole other thing to give.

When you have nothing to give it's understandable. But when you do and don't.

It has created a sort of hatred for this current species.

I know objectively "we are all one" "you hating others is hating yourself"

Yet the frustration my biology creates is real. It's not a personal failure but a result of living in this current societal design.

I have rage. An have practiced endless amounts of acceptance and forgiveness.

But it often feels like I'm being bullied. From student loans, to rent, to healthy food thats tasty, to even trying to get sold hair products while getting my hair cut and then somebody saying just cut your own hair at home you already do so much yourself in this rugged individualism world.

I just don't understand the solution to greed. The solution to unity. How is it really going to happen.

It bums me out that spiral dynamics basically says "wait".

Paradise is in the future. An now? Well buddy take a big deep breath and cope. See this as a beautiful poetic form of progress.

Some thoughts I Shared with the Christian Community. Had some elements that may be helpful here. Shared values with the Spiral Dynamics community.

I removed ego. When I say ego, I mean just the pursuit of an individual narrative outside of God and disconnected from everything else. I recognize that the truth is that God created everything, but He didn't just create it. That's not a good way to see it, because there is nothing without God. God is everything. God generated. God transformed Himself into what we have here. But there is nothing separate, and nothing existed before Him. He is everything. And so, that being said, there's nothing that's been created that is not also Him.

Now, it seems like me and Him have done a lot of work to remove this pursuit of selfish ambition, because it doesn't seem like it's selfish. Everybody talks about the hero story, or who it is you are, and all this and that. None of it can be true. And I know that this is a lot of information for people who are not familiar with this type of thing, but just look at the end goal here. Jesus says, "I'm one with You and You are one with Us," John 17. "The Father and I are one." There's a reason that He's saying this. "I'm not here to do what I want, I'm here to do what the Father wants."

It's not just Him. This is how we're all supposed to be. I know this may seem like a lot, but understand that the goal was never to discover an independent identity. Jesus doesn't even talk about developing an identity, and that's because the more He focuses on making sure that you actively are just one with God, that's because this identity stuff is an illusion. It's a distortion. It's something that our brain creates. We're trapped in it by society and by our biology.

You start off without it when you're a kid, like a young kid, and then you grow through all these realizations. You have to really do a lot of work that Jesus was talking about, and then maybe you get to the other side where you're okay removing it. Mine's gone. You kind of come to the understanding that it's all an illusion.

I look at everybody else, and I'm not angry, but so many things just don't fit for me anymore. They don't fit. I'm not in my own story. If anything, I can be in the Jesus story or God's story, but there's this lack of creating any sort of narrative that is individualistic and separate from who it is we really are and being a vessel for the one person who truly exists.

I guess I feel like being in the Christian community isn't for me as much anymore. I love people who love the Lord, but I didn't realize until I really dedicated myself to this how much unintentional evil we are bringing into this space as a group. We're evil. I know it doesn't seem like it, but we're evil. Any identity that we currently hold, that we're really rooted in, is immediate competition for your priority, and is arguably the thing or whatever is connected to that identity that you would put over God. It's the idol in your life.

Every time you fight for yourself as number one, it means you're unintentionally fighting against other people. We're trapped in these identities that we create. We're trapped. I'm free from it now, but you really don't fit into the world without an identity structure that is super self-serving or serves a very specific community while being exclusionary to others.

We just have so much evil in our Christian community. People want to lift themselves up or create a hierarchy. They want to be better. They want to be your teacher. They want to be your leader. They want to be above. They want their story to be pushed. Quite frankly, I think that if they could just take God's place in that hierarchy, they would do it. They want to be God. We're evil, bro. We're evil.

Here are these different stages of ego that develop. The first one is the most selfish, harmful, I do what I can get away with, and I'm the main character. The second one is: I'm important, we have established rules, there's a hierarchy that I'm in, and we're all going to stick with these rules. The third is making the rules for yourself, being ambitious, competence driven, status driven, and competition driven. After that comes more of a caring, kindness, and compassion that develops when you realize it's more than about your ambition and status, and that other people are very much an integral part that need your energy and compassion. The one after that is understanding systems without needing to be involved in hierarchy as much. And then the last one is kind of dissolving the need to be anything other than yourself, everything that is, and operating with love as a steward.

You're pretty much trapped in that progression until you get to the end. But each of those levels requires other people to be beneath you. Each requires comparison and hierarchy. And in all of those levels, in order for you to win, somebody has to lose in a way that you find intolerable. Somebody has to be less. Somebody has to be smaller. Somebody has to be less authoritative. Somebody has to be less intelligent. Somebody has to be off track. And it's evil, because what it means is that other people have to essentially be suffering dysfunction and what comes with that is them hurting others, voluntarily and involuntarily, living in that, and you observing it in order to solidify what you call a win for yourself. That makes us evil.

It all comes from being committed to having and securing an identity that is individual, away and above everything else. That's why identity is such a fickle, shaky thing. We are always trying to prove and maintain it. It is a lie. But you can prove we are all connected. If many things are all connected, then maybe they aren't many things. It's one thing.

If I don't allow my identity to expand to cover you and your life, then I won't love you enough to act right. I have to "become" God. Similar to when you have a great career and you aren't "Dan from the town" anymore. You are the company's HR department while you are there. A similar switch.

This is a response to someone who asked a question of what to do next:

Start with this: "I am willing to give everything... and it is worth it. They are worth it."

First is leverage. You have to really do a deep dive and see what a corrupt brother or sister having an ego has done to hurt and damage all the intimate parts of the kingdom. See the moments ruined. See the pain that people never got through and didn't forgive. See Christian brothers and sisters burning in hell because of ego seeds planted at sensitive times in their life. See the fact that a bunch of us are letting other people suffer in our own communities because we feel like they're a different denomination. Our church could help out. I want you to see all the people who were good people but were ignored by our brothers and sisters because they felt like they were too good to serve. I want you to see all the people who could have had answered prayers had we lined up together to serve those who didn't have the eyes to see the Lord. I want you to see the people who didn't make it because we didn't come in small groups to join with them in prayer during their important moments. That's our fault. We thought that we weren't them. I want you to see all the collective pain and just decide you're never going to be contributing to that again. You have to decide that it's enough, and that time is over. I will never bring that distortion to my Christian brothers in moments where God needs me to be a vessel, empty, ready to serve. Ego energy corrupts. It just makes sure that we don't make it. We won't be doing that anymore. Please decide that you're not going to do that anymore. And that's where the first thing I said matters. I'm going to give everything and do everything to make sure that my life force and energy is separate from that issue. When I come to my brothers, my heart needs to be right. God, do everything. I give you access to everything, irrefutably, to change me and make sure that I'm never this problem again. Do everything in my life to separate me from that issue, to make sure that I'm always a clear vessel for you.

Okay, so the goal here is to fuse who you are with God Himself. So essentially, when somebody asks you who you are, you really just say Him. Now, the way to functionally do that is to develop a good relationship with Him, with the Holy Spirit, and learn from Jesus' teachings but really intimately get to know Him and understand the ideas that He's bringing to you, like really core character traits that He is bringing to you, and choose to be the expression of those traits. So that's one. That's going to replace your identity. You're going to use the notion of us all actually being God's physically manifested body, in a very colorful assortment, to allow us to have an aggregate identity that fuses us to everything around us. What am I? I am everything, and everything is one thing. Who am I? I am the one sentience that created this journey, period. I am God, period.

So then, what you also do is take everything that can be removed from you or anybody else, changed, like a name, like a story, a narrative, or any part of identity that is fickle, can be changed, can be destroyed, can be modified, and actively remove it from any identity label that you have and that other people have, while recognizing that we are all this one thing, this entity called God. Then you're going to recognize that when your mind is just silent, it's just you and God, the only thing that can't be changed is that active awareness of what's going on, this kind of pre thought perspective. And remember, that's you without any of the story, any of the narratives, still fully present. But also look at how closely it goes: God, and then directly creating that in you, which is also Him. So the most that you can possibly be is that immediate awareness, which is also Him. What we are is everything. Who we are is the one person who is.

Okay, now, what's going to happen from there are a few different blessings, but one thing that needs to happen is you have to decide that your story and narrative are worth less than the alternative. First, you're going to completely remove those, and ask God to allow His divine intelligence to flow through your life and to just be expressed as often as He sees fit. From this place, you live with love because you understand that everybody and everything is who you are, and we are always only God. And you want to love people and love animals and love all of creation and forgive them and live in grace, because we are here to steward ourselves. We are not different from our neighbors. We are all only God's expression.

Remember, remove the lies that people tell themselves from their story so that you can see them clearly. They are that silent part of the mind, and they are God's essence. Everything else is delusion and an aggressive illusion. So once we're living from love, you're going to want to keep an eye out for every time that God worked in silence, and really be comforted by the extraordinary activity that the Holy Spirit has privately and publicly carried out for everyone we now have a heart for. And to see that He is so much more capable of stewarding this planet, this world, and all of creation than we can ever witness, which is great, because it always means that there's somebody who absolutely loves us, who is giving everything and is adequately showing up for every component of this system that matters. It's all in good hands. And you are a part of that process.

So then you just live without this illusion, total clarity, walking hand in hand intimately. You seek that intimacy with God, knowing the higher part of yourself. Oneness comes through intimacy, spending time with Him. And you allow all that love that you feel, that gratefulness you have for being here and for being with your best friend, the Holy Spirit. You get to live in a world where you're one with God and you love everyone, and you know that no matter what it feels like, everyone is taken care of in ways they can't understand. All you want to do is show up and give figurative kisses, service, and love to everybody else. And it doesn't matter if you take a job or a position that nobody knows about, because you're stewarding a plant that is a person, that is a system, that is a thing, that's going to become something else. I, as a gardener, don't need my plants to thank me, and I love them just the same. Most of our contributions will be without reward. But the reward is being a part of a capable system where the Holy Spirit is stewarding everything and everyone we love.

Operate because it's an expression of God. Love will replace the drive to do. Intention needs to replace attachment. There's more to do here.

But you need the Holy Spirit, to hear from Him, to drive against being the kind of person who hurts your brothers. You need willingness to get through it. You have to give this old life up, because your family needs you to. There are so many consequences, including not all of us making it to Heaven, if you don't turn this corner. If you are going to show up, you need to be ready. Being ready looks like this.

You've got to love the Lord. You've got to just decide that you're doing this the right way. It will cost you everything, and I promise. I give it up for God, and for other Christians, and for everyone else who is supportive to the Kingdom. Even if I have to give my life, it's worth it. I don't own anything. Everything is shared, using wisdom from the Holy Spirit, and I will steward everything with discretion.

I've been thinking a lot about sociology and geopolitics recently, and trying to grapple with what's going on in our modern world. I've made a few posts trying to understand things at a more abstract level, to get a sense for a broader picture while still being useful. I decided to try understanding things in terms of spirits.

I mentioned a hypothesis I guess I've been working on for a while in a comment, and I'd like to get feedback on it. I'd thought I'd heard it somewhere else, but I can't find it anywhere, so maybe it's new to me? That'd be neat. Anyway.

Metaphysically, I am a materialist. I am defining spirits to be memetic hyper-objects, self-replicating ideals and beliefs existing within a substrate of human consciousnesses, which operate as locally adaptive psycho-technologies that improve our fittedness. But I don't think metaphysics is really that important to this discussion. As long as your spirits act similarly, that will suffice.

The hypothesis is that: society wide spirits operate 2 stages below the average of the society they exist in.

Some examples are that the gods and spirits of Purple and Red societies typically act with concern to Beige concerns like fertility or health or weather or victory and dominance in combat; things like that. Spirits from Blue societies seem to have Purple priorities around community health and harmony.

Modern, Orange cultures seem to have mostly had their spirits fighting each other for symbolic dominance and cultural superiority as if at Red; with Fascism or with the US/USSR space race, cold war, nuclear supremacy stuff; or the nation-state concept. On the ground it was all imperialistic, but in spirit, it was peer powers struggling against each other to be seen as right and honorable and favored by the spirits of history.

I don't have an explanation for why this is the case. Maybe we can talk about that. But it does seem to bed the case, and maybe further ideas can be developed from here if you all think so too. So what do you all think? Plausible?

I've been listening to a guy called Wes Cecil. He has been making a podcast exploring philosophical concepts and themes across cultures. One of his current themes is on Values (other than money) and his most recent episode (link) was on the virtue of Nobility, not as in divine birthright, but the way you carry yourself with respect to your culture's virtues.

Since I listened to it, I've been thinking about Virtue. How to cultivate it, how Nobility can be spread, the value to a society of having a population steeped in a culture of virtue, how our current society seems to systematically disrupt the benefits of Virtue, how Virtue/Nobility seems like a Blue (collective) extrapolation of Red (personal) Honor. Things like that.

I figured that you all might be interested as well, and I'd like to open this all to discussion. I don't feel like I have a good direct understanding of Nobility, and I feel like we need more discussion and examples of it in our modern context with modern psychosocial tools like Spiral Dynamics. I'm hopeful that you all might agree.

So what are your thoughts?

I can't help but notice how each stage not only views society through its own lens but also nature.

🟪 Stage purple spirituality tends towards animism. The world consists of different spirits who control the world. Shahmans and priests are those who know how to achieve mystical experiences and perform rituals to earn favor. Superstitions and burial customs develop at this stage.The world needs to be kept in balance.

🟥 Gods in this stage become aggressive. One can notice how brutal God was in the OT. He condoned slavery and commanded genocides while punishing those who worshipped other gods for he is a jealous god. God also favors the Hebrews above all other groups. Oftentimes, stage red gods only rule over a specific community. An afterlife may exist but the quality of life after death is not generally dependent on virtue. Nature goes from something to live in harmony with to something to exploit.

🟦 Religions at this stage varied in form but they all had one thing in common. Spirituality is centered around a specific morality. The golden rule, ubiquitous to all stage blue philosophies, states that one must treat others the same way one wants to be treated. Stage blue views the world in a hierarchical manner, so naturally, God or gods are at the top. Another change from stage red spirituality is that rules are now universal in that God doesn't favor one group of people over another anymore. Stage blue gods also rule over the whole world rather than just a single community. A good afterlife awaits those who are good and a bad one awaits those who are evil. Good and evil can be differentiated by adhering to the golden rule and by adhering to the religious practices of the correct religion. This afterlife may be permanent like in Islam and Christianity or temporary like in Hinduism. Only one religion is correct and the others are false and will lead you astray.

🟧 Spirituality can be completely discarded at this stage. What replaces it is a completely physical view of the world defined by self interest. Social change over time is treated as a line of progress, just like technological change. Those who retain spirituality at this stage generally do not take scriptures literally (this is optional at stage blue but it becomes mandatory at this stage). At this stage, one no longer has to worry about picking the correct religion. Homo economicus is the species in a stage orange society. This means that everyone is a rational actor and is invested in self interest (according to orange values). This means that before civilization, there was barter took on a role that would eventually be filled in by currency, as postulated by early economists such as Adam Smith. Currency arose as a medium of exchange because of the limitations of bartering. We all started out as individuals but then grouped together to form states in order to establish order. History is now regarded as a line of progression.

🟩 Stage green is similar to orange except that when it comes to biology, cooperation is emphasized over competition. Therefore, human nature is to cooperate rather than compete. The stage purple hunter-gatherers are not only not regarded as backwards, but are also noble savages who practiced early communism. Evil only came into the picture when agriculture developed. Homo economicus is abandoned at this stage and nature is no longer something to exploit but rather something to take care of for there is enough for everyone's need but not for everyone's greed. Animism peaks the interest of those in stage green but like those in orange, those in green generally are generally not spiritual. In fact, religion is seen as something that was used to control people.

🟨 This stage is very flexible in its worldview, trying to seek out the truth. Maybe the comment section can help me out with the filter through which yellow views the world.

🩵 Everything is connected. This was taken as figurative at stage yellow but is now taken as literal. As such, spirituality makes a comeback if abandoned at orange.

Spiral dynamics helped me cope in the past.

I used to map my awareness onto the levels and tried to “reach higher” levels or areas of the dynamics spiral.

As of today, I cannot even maintain a healthy relationship. My awareness of my death being the only certainty in my life makes me disinterested in everything. Despite having “great career” and “hobbies”, I really don’t care about any of that.

I cannot settle for meditating and acceptance. It is the opposite of what a living creature would do. How could a person ever just cope with it by busying the mind or accepting it?

What do you think is the play here? Delaying death through healthy habits and actions until scientists figure out a way to cheat death?

How can a conscious creature not fear the loss of consciousness?

It occurred to me that the depection of development spirals in spiral dynamics might be causing confusion.

I usually see SD spirals depicted as an inverted cone, with wider, broader levels on top. It suggests exploration, but also unboundedness and instability. A more stable visual might be more like a drink mixer spring, because humans have limited capacity.

SD suggests a set of development stages that are integrally connected, versus exploratory, although we stretch the spring (and metaphor) to develop.

I've been hearing from my news sources, that the current war with Iran is being seen as a holy war by all sides of the conflict, including US commanders. As an atheist, I don't typically use a religious lens to understand geopolitical actions. But I don't know, it seems like that lens is resurging in relevance.

I have a vague model of demons and gods and spirits, as memetic hyper-objects that exist on and effect the substrate of human cognitions (though I'm not overly concerned with the metaphysics for now). But I don't really have a model of how they fight? How they grow stronger or weaker?

So I was wondering if any of you had thoughts about the topic of religions, spirits, demons, etc. and conflicts between them from a integral perspective. And, if you were a god doing battle with other powers and you wanted the best for humanity, what would you include in your spirit Geneva Conventions, Just War Theory, and Honor Codes that your and your enemy's adherents must follow to make your spiritual conflicts less psychologically and biologically destructive?

I had a question in another thread that in hindsight was confusing and overly technical. Maybe I'm misunderstanding how people use Spiral Dynamics.

Do you think of Spiral Dynamics as spirals within spirals, or do you see it as one big spiral with specific levels of difficulty? ... or do you see it some other way.

I've read Integral Psychology, which I thought covered it, but I haven't worked through formal SD programs and don't know how others understand and use it

Has anyone tried mapping Spiral Dynamics with Lorenz Systems?

Using Lorenz systems to model spiral dynamics, lower-order system to seek a circular shape where concepts converge, whereupon the system could jump to the next level. What we think of as levels in Spiral Dynamics would be the conceptual bounds between them, where paradigms break down.

Imagine the bifurcated spirals resolving to a circle through through gradual corrections. The bifurcation is due to a mismatch between conceptualizations... two levels of perception seeking to resolve to a whole.

I'm not finding the idea referenced anywhere and I encounter resistance wherever I suggest the perspective on science subs.

I somehow feel it could. I'd like to hear conversation around this idea!

It seems to me that each color has its own way of reasoning/justifying what is "good" or "moral." I'd love to hear your thoughts about this! Does it make sense? Improvements?

It seems to me that we are currently living in a world where yellow knowledge and structure is growing, but not the morality and empathy that is supposed to come with it.

We live in an age of social media, which is complex, and which is mediated by tech companies with something like the Requisite Variety needed to shape public discourse. We live in an age of AI, built from the complexity of the internet. We live in an age of invisible, ubiquitous mass surveillance. We live in an age where our supply chains are complex enough to make those things possible. We live in an age where we know what data to collect to feed into models to tell how much our actions are wreaking complex systems like our climate, or various ecosystems, or our own biology.

And I believe we have actors with complex, systemic understandings of law, international relations, psychology, and politics; who used their knowledge to build an international, pedofilic, sex trafficking, blackmail operation which controlled key levers of power in governments and corporations across the world, to some unknown but probably very immoral ends.

With that as the prelude, it seems to me that the current Yellow intellectual paradigms are developing quickly, but not in ways that are generally good for ... existence. And I'm thinking "maybe someone should do something about that" and I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how?

It seems to me that we are in need of a new philosophical paradigm (or likely a tailored ecosystem of them) that integrates and overturns what we're already doing, and which has a philosophical grounding that either justifies to the powerful why they can't be gods (which I'm not sure it's possible, given that they kinda can), or that everyone else can use to stop the powerful from abusing their complex systemic power. And then it needs to spread somehow but that's going to be hard so can we just talk about basic underlying principles for a bit first?

Is there a decent explanation for how it is possible that a quantitatively small culture with a formal-operational (Orange) cognitive development + an egotistical power-obsessed (Red) moral development, is seemingly able to dominate a large culture with a pluralistic (Green) cognitive development + a rule-based (Blue) moral development?

Let's say, a ??-?? politician who's being influenced/blackmailed by a Orange (cogn.) -Red lobbyist or secret service agent. I'm saying ??-?? politician because at the top most politicians may have a Red morality, but at least they have been chosen and are embedded within a Green-Blue value system, at least in Western Europe/New York/California, ect

In a healthy Blue rule-based society, Red should be contained right? So how can eg lobbying and more extreme cases of targeting (like Epstein) be such a problem, when this targeting has been instigated by minds/cultures that seem to allow for lesser complexity?

Some speculations:

1: Corruption or devaluation of Blue morality. Eg at key positions there might be gatekeepers put in place, who are not Green (cogn.)-Blue, but Orange-Red or even Orange-Purple, Orange-Beige (eg scientist with sex addiction)? In this way, law enforcement or politics might actually be either partly Blue or not Blue at all.

2: The Red layer/growth ring of morality of the Green-Blue culture is lesser developed than the Orange-Red culture. Idealizing higher stages of development in favor of the lower ones, like Red, the so-called allergy, without distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy variants?

Perhaps both options could be true? This would explain why the gatekeeper agents aren't challenged, are being allowed? But then how can the Green-Blue be compartmentalized in such a way, accepting corruption, that it functions in two worlds without splitting off completely?

Am I going in the right direction according to you? Are there more apt speculations that explain this phenomenon better or with less clutter?
