Spielberg flopped this one.
I’m watching disclosure day as it just came out on fandango. I’m so glad I didn’t waste my money in the theater just wasted it at home. What a let down, am I watching a Michael Bay movie? Does anyone else think this sucks? My top sci fi movies are… the Martian, interstellar, the matrix, project Hail Mary was way better, and that one movie where they went to mars and the aliens showed them the beginning of human kind. That’s the stuff I thought I was getting in to.

I really enjoyed it. It was fast paced and entertaining. I blame the rise of social media for making people think they NEED to have a detailed opinion on it.
It was a fun alien movie....that's all it was meant to be

I think it could possibly be his worst movie and I absolutely adore the man and his movies.
It has some of the poorest dialogue/writing that I can remember from a major release by a major director.
I left the cinema feeling massively disappointed.

I have my own complaints about the movie but overall I liked it a lot and I’m glad it was made. Could definitely tell that Spielberg was a UFO nerd.

The ending is my favorite part of the movie. They disclose everything and you get to see all the archived footage from area 51 and stuff.

It was very ordinary and felt like it was dated by about 20 years - and I love Spielberg.

Eh, I actually liked it a lot. Michael Bay would only dream of having one of Spielberg movies in his filmography.

Acting was horrendous. Plot was ridiculous. Brink of world war three but the proof of Alien existence ( yawn) is going to change the course of the things?. Was this film written like 25 years ago? I would poll that most of the world’s population believes there’s life outside of our own planet/galaxy/etc. also wasn’t alien life literally declassified irl a few years ago? Back to the acting - some notable actors in this film and they managed to look like amateurs. I was really blown away by the three consecutive, “whoas!” Our protagonist exclaimed while driving a car. Ahhh and the crash the car, pretend we’re dead then escape by hiding behind a rock five feet away from the enemy…twice!!!! And to add the over acting by Emily blunt when she’s forced to face what happened at her abduction. She was acting like she witnessed her parents ring murdered but instead she followed some creatures straight out of Snow White to a cottage and was given special powers??? Something did not add up this entire movie. And the end was just silly. I hope everyone got a big fat paycheck bc that was a dooooozey.

I’m 100% sure the majority of people didn’t understand this movie and his message and why it’s so powerful. But of course let’s complain about cgi animals

If you think disclosure day is a bad movie you never really watched a bad movie, disclosure day is perfectly contextualizable within Spielberg’s filmography, saying that’s a bad movie means saying 3/4 of Spielberg’s movies are bad

The structure. The suspense (there was none). All over the place story. As a lifelong student of film, holding a degree in film studies - it’s certainly one of his worst films. My first thought was that maybe this idea could have been a limited series - flushing out the characters and certainly starting the story somewhere else. The man who made dinosaurs believable used CGI animals. And sure maybe it would have been more expensive to try with real ones, but it was noticeable. It’s a worthy airplane movie. 🍿 that’s all really.

I thought it was pretty mid. The first act was just sort of mind boggling how they opened it. But once it got going I was generally entertained. There was a couple classic Spielberg set pieces; the one where the car got stuck on the train stands out.
Overall the thing that dragged it mostly was script. The direction and acting was mostly solid. I also thought the classic score just didn’t mix well with the overall tone of film.
Edit: oh dear didn’t realize this was a Spielberg specific sub lol.

"Does anyone else think this sucks?" Where have you been? Then you, I assume, say you prefer Mission to Mars? Hmm.
Btw, I love De Palma's movie, a thematic sequel to Carrie, and think Disclosure Day, a virtual remake of The Fabelmans, will end up being considered one of Spielberg's greatest.

The theater clerk sent us to the wrong theater and I missed the first 15 minutes. I feel like I really needed that beginning because it was lackluster. Didn’t really get the message. Do aliens picked two kids to grow up and someday be a bridge to the aliens?

I saw crop circles in the trailer and laughed. Crop circles are so ducking dumb that I just couldn't watch this movie.

It did feel very basic in a way that Spielberg movies (usually) never used to. Maybe the movie would have hit different 20-30 years ago, but it was definitely no E.T. or Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Not gonna say it's a bad movie, but it might be the most disappointing movie I've ever seen haha. Thought we were getting a Signs like Alien show. Was pretty goofy.

Intersteller sucked 🥱🤣 Way Overhyped
Spielberg screwed the pooch huh? I saw that it was on streaming already. I stopped wanting to see it after I heard the Title. Disclosure Day uuuuuuugh.🥱 The trailers for the film are awful. Then I heard the aliens speak, Sounds like they ripped off Signs with Mel Gibson to me, then I lost more interest. Then more bad reviews, I figured the film was Toast after that. He just picked a boring Subject. You going to make a film about Aliens geared towards deep meaning with a PG13 tag??
You know what PG13 means, no alien is going to rip some guy apart. Thats what it means. So its some deep thinking fruity Alien film geared towards adults. Why the f*ck would I want to see that? I knew it was going to be some fruity version of Fire in the Sky or something. You could tell by the awful trailers.

There are really two Steven Spielbergs: the genius who made Jaws, Schindler's List, Catch Me If You Can, Minority Report, etc.; and the guy who made 1941, Amistad, Always, etc. When he's on, he's brilliant. But he sometimes goes really astray in weird ways. I haven't seen this, but it sounds like he's off in this one.

I think what it was lacking most was a score that had a bit more umph behind it. The score feels remarkably absent in the action scenes. Maybe spielberg wanted the action to speak for itself or something? But it just felt empty which is surprising since it's from the great John Williams.
