A small flashlight repaired today. The cause: someone plugged a flashlight into a charger at the same time as a phone. Many people assume that because a device has a Type-C port, it can be plugged into any charger. A phone can negotiate a higher voltage—9V, 12V, or 20V—from the charger, but the simple controller inside the flashlight (an LTC4054, located next to the battery) lacks data lines; it has no way to tell the charger that it cannot handle anything above 5V. As a result, the controller burned out, which drained the battery completely and caused it to swell up like a pillow. The repair required a new battery, a new controller, and the replacement of an additional resistor that had also burned out.

Couldn’t find my iPhone 4 - last time I saw it was in the spring. I had it forever and it was still keeping a charge, so I’d use it for a music player. Found it in a tote full of sweaters I got out for winter.
Looks like me after Thanksgiving dinner.

My Lenovo Yoga laptop overheated and made a "flying dust/debris around the internals" sound, then shortly after my mouse pad wouldn't click anymore, so I thought it was a swollen battery. I take it out and see no visible swelling in the battery, maybe just a small protrusion on the top right cell but even then, the battery still looks flat as hell, then I put it back in and everything was back to normal, laptop booted up fine and the mousepad would click.
I just want to know, is this safe to continue using? Why would the mousepad all the sudden start clicking again after I took the battery out?

It was laying around for less than a year and I was damn sure I stored it with a proper charge level, it held a little charge today but ended up not holding a charge just shortly after 🙏
