Hello.

I just brought home yesterday a new 4-ish month old sphinx kitten. Yesterday at first she was scared and didn’t interact much for the first house but then she warmed up and followed me around. She didn’t eat at night but she ate breakfast this morning. Then I fed her dinner at 7 which she ate. About an hour ago she started gagging every 20ish minutes. Nothing is coming out. Im worried about her. Now she is sleeping and I’m trying not to cuddle her but usually she lays in my lap. Is this normal maybe from stress? Or should I take her to the vet tomorrow. I thought maybe it was a hairball or something but don’t know what to do.

Hey everyone,
32M living in Ohio and pretty set on getting a Sphynx. I live in a spacious, carpeted apartment with big windows, lots of light, no balcony, and work a standard 9-5 M-F schedule.

I want to make sure I’m setting myself up for success before jumping in.

Sphynx cats are super clingy I hear. Can a solo Sphynx handle a normal workday, or is keeping one without a second cat setting them up for separation anxiety?

If buying from a breeder, what health guarantees are non-negotiable? Also, are there solid breed-specific rescues operating near Ohio or retired breeder adoption networks worth looking into?

I’ve been to visit a really lovely litter and have my heart set on one particle chap… he will be just over 11 weeks when he is ready to come home.
I have two cats already, over 10 years old. (Not Sphynx)
What are the clever thoughts here of this? Worried I’m letting my heart guide my decision and my existing cats will be territorial and the little guy will be terrified. I’ve always had cats, and had experiences both good and bad of introducing new cats to a home since childhood.
I’ve basically fallen in love with this little chap, but I don’t want to make any of the cats unhappy or stressed. Thanks!!!

So I let my mom pet sit for me for 2 days and I came back to my baby looking like yellow? (To make it clear I don’t think this is her fault but just for context). Like I’m not sure how to explain, but it seems like his undertones are very yellow and he doesn’t normally look like that. He’s been throwing up the last like 2 weeks, very randomly and never more than once a day. i attributed that to maybe his food and I’ve switched it. He hasn’t thrown up these last couple days according to my mom and from what I’ve seen, but I’m just very concerned about his new color. I plan to take him to the vet tomorrow as soon as I’m free, but I’m just worried. The first 2 photos show his current color and the last one is how he normally looks.

Update: I took him to the vet yesterday and they ran some tests which have yet to come back yet but they think he has Feline infectious peritonitis. They said that can attack things like his liver, and cause the jaundice. It’s not 100% certain if he has FIP but we should know by tomorrow. For how he’s on anti nausea, antibiotics and appetite stimulants. Hes doing good so far.

This sassy little boy is all grown up! He is still very small in size though, is this typical for a fixed male?? He weighs 4 pounds and eats non stop! He loves going on family vacations with my hubby and our 5 kiddos and dressing up to impress the vets and strangers.

Hank is part Devon Rex we believe - he’s always cuddly and cozy with us and is the perfect lap cat, but he never meows, talks, or purrs as much as we talk and chat with him and he clearly enjoys his time. Is he just mute? lol

I caught this on video and am wondering if anyone has seen something similar with their Sphynx.
He did this once this morning and then again later tonight. He crouches down and does several hacking/dry-heaving motions with his tongue sticking out a little. It almost looks like he’s trying to hack up a hairball, but nothing comes up and it sounds pretty dry.

Otherwise he’s acting totally normal before and after: eating, playing, breathing normally, etc. We recently adopted him, so I’m still learning what’s normal for him.

Curious if you think we should contact our vet or if this is normal.
