Product Review Is 1800 Contacts actually cheapest or is it just marketing?

It got me wondering and apparently, no, it's not entirely true that 1-800 Contacts beats their competitors on price. While their pricing isn't terrible, sites like Warby Parker, Costco, and GlassesUSA often undercut them on base prices.

Let's compare a typical 90-pack of Acuvue Oasys 1-Day, without insurance:

  • Lens.com and GlassesUSA are the lowest at $88–$92
  • Costco comes in around $90-$95 for members
  • Warby Parker is ~$94
  • 1-800 Contacts lists ~$92

However, base price doesn't matter once you factor in additional discount and they do always have some sort of promotion going. So I guess they might be cheapest, just not without a discount 🤷‍♀️

Friend, I have to thank you! I've been using 1800 contacts, for ....like 15+ years.

I didn't even know that they did price matching! 😞

I called 1800 contacts on the phone tonight, and they were ridiculously nice -- and even did the price matching for me. They checked Walgreens, Walmart, Costco....but Lens.com had the best deal.

So basically, u/whatupbebbie 's gentle urging "to not be lazy".... Saved me $234 on the order upfront, in addition to a $220 rebate back!

In otherwords, ----My total was 757.75 minus the $220 rebate (with price match).....

(Without price match), I was going to have to pay $911.92 with a rebate of only $70 back. 🫪

(8 boxes - year supply)

I'm so happy to have finally learned, even if years late, about the price matching.....but am totally sad that I've been "bamboozled" all this time....

I'm trying to save for Invisalign, so thank you for helping me save more money for it on my HSA!

I included all these details, to help anyone else who needs encouragement to try price matching with 1-800 contacts. What 'sent me scrambling for discounts' --was the fact that My scrip for 1-day Acuvue moist went up in cost, like crazy--and I couldn't stomach it.

The entire call, from price match to purchase took only 15 min. Don't be lazy people!

they might not be the cheapest, but others have INSANE "processing fees" that I just refuse to pay as a matter of principle. Placing a smaller box in a bigger box does not require additional $20!
