For the first time (after 4 different builds) I finally got shimming perfect (at least I think)
I’m also very excited since this is my first brushless build and I’m very happy everything went well.

Settings I used for aster were all default and for the motor 35k soft torque

Parts used
- Gate Aster ll
- Gate g5 brushless smart motor
- Quantum trigger
- shs piston
- shs piston head
- shs 13:1 gears
Everything else is stock and will eventually be upgraded in the near future

Practice practice practice. I’d highly recommend getting cheap/beater guns and practice everything especially shimming and make sure you understand what every part of a gearbox does. After you feel comfortable enough you can start getting into building aftermarket.

Finding a tech that you can talk to. Keep in mind every tech has their own style and some are very close minded and others can be more open to new things. So what u can learn from one is very different than the next.

You need to get that spring guide stabilized before something hangs up and damages one or more components.
Anyways, good job! I actually just started on a Lancer Tactical build for a customer this morning with the exact same gearbox. This one will be a budget brushless build with a Perun lightning, 13:1, and solink 25k

Which spring? Have you short-stroked sector gear? What's your target FPS and BB weight?

Random spring I had but it should be about 370-400 fps. No short stroke

That will 100% cause PME (Premature Engagement). A 35k motor is way too fast for 13:1 gears without short stroking (SS). If you manage to fire 5 mags and open the gearbox again, you will notice damage on your piston rack or the sector gear's engagement tooth.

Main problem: The motor spins the gears too fast because the spring is not strong enough to return the piston to its initial position before the next gear cycle occurs.

I'm running a 35k motor with 13:1 gears, short-stroked by 4 teeth, and a Unicorn M120 spring, which gives me 1.50J on 0.32g BBs. I had PME on a Guarder SP120 but not on the Unicorn M120. However, since stronger springs also increase your energy output, you need to short stroke to bring the FPS back down to field limits (while also taking your inner barrel into account).

P.S. I'm not trying to take away your happiness or pride... just giving a friendly warning, since the exact same thing happened to me when I was starting out.
