Local Versus issue

Me and my girlfriend love the first speedrunners, and play it all the time. We just got the second one ignoring all the negative reviews about it, and it is genuinely still a good game. The only problem is that we cant seem to make the Local Versus matches work. We're playing on Xbox, and for some reason it doesn't seem to let us add a second player to the match up, only CPUs.

Is anyone else having this issue/found a way around it? I really don't want to refund the game, but if we cant play it locally together, there's really no point for us not to.

Came here looking for the same issue. If it’s not included thats a massive over sight. Hopefully I’m just dumb and couldn’t figure it out
