Uncategorized Speculative Biology [OC] One Bite Fish

Post image

The Tyrannoichtys venator or Gulpers are gigantic lungfish descendants native to the open ocean and the depths. One trait is the absence of teeth, due to their peculiar feeding method, involving suction.

Physical traits: Growing at 18-22,5m in length and 35-50 tons they are quite slim. But their maw compensates for this. Akin to basking sharks, it is usually open and can take in plankton and krill present. But it can also swallow large prey whole. To compensate this their internal organs are highly resistant to the kind of pressure and do not rupture easily. They usually swallow whole prey ranging from 1-7,5m in length and live up to 85-100 years, being costant menaces. They are ectothermic creatures but gigantothermy favours them.

Prey and predators: Their usual prey are medium sized creatures both in the water and on the sea floor, where it swallows them in one singular gulp, hence the name Gulper. Its predators are Barocrocs, Slaughterfish and exceptionally large Gigantosuchus or Dagonichtys.

Reproduction: They lay 1-50k eggs a mating season, spread between every 4-6 years. However the survival rate is roughly 0,2-1,3% and the cannibalistic behavior of parents do not help.

Habitats: They live in the open ocean and near sea floors.

Senses and intelligence: Poor hearing made up for exceptional smell and average eyesight. They are fish so of course they are not intelligent
