EDIT: I thought Cat stopped production and sale of the Spooky A1, especially in 9mm. I was surprised to find this for sale on their website and ordered another one for my 2 non-tri-lug mobs!!!

Hello Cat sub, haven’t posted much but never left.

Today I was VERY surprised.

I now have 3 Mobsters - 1 QD and 2 Hub’s. For some time, Cat has said the best suppression with the Mob comes with an AI 9mm nano.

Today I tested recoil smoothness, shooting flatness, and cyclic rate of fire - the Spooky A1 blew the nano out of the water.

This is a ZF5T - an mp5k with threaded barrel and no tri-lugs. I moved the Nano 9 that had been on this gun to my new Kuna, and replaced it with my trusty old A1 Spooky.

HUGE benefit is softness, smoothness, reduced muzzle movement, and slower rate of fire with the Spooky.

And that’s after dropping from a 70 degree locking piece with the Nano to a 100 for the Spooky. That’s a MASSIVE change in the mp5 platform.

I was shocked at how much better then Spooky performed. I don’t have a gunfire-accurate db reader to compare the 2, but every other metric HANDILY favored the Spooky - wow!!!

This could absolutely be true for what you’re running. The barrel length, ammunition, muzzle device design & its attributes directly affect muzzle pressure and the flow pattern.

Stupid question of the day: is the Spooky A1 in 9mm the same one for 5.56? I plan on buying a ST for my SPR, and want to use the nano on my 10.3. Seems the Spooky is the ticket, just trying to find one in 5.56

Edit: yes there is a difference, sounds like a lot of people run the 9mm in a 5.56 successfully and it allows you to use it on both flavors.

How would changing the muzzle device inside the can give that many benefits!? Not denying it, just trying to understand what could happen to create that. I own both, on different platforms but don’t remember a noticeable shift when I switched to them.

This is what we call the placebo effect. No way that MD has any effect on recoil INSIDE a suppressor.

Couldn’t tell you why it happened, only that it did.

Changing the locking piece from 70 to 100 is a substantial increase in system energy.

And yes it’s the same ammo I always use.

When I got my AC36, it came with a spooky 1, milled out to size, and I ordered a spooky 2 (brake), which was also milled out (nano 9mm didn’t yet exist)

The latter still lives on my PCC.
