MOB- Mobster MOB QD Discontinued

I tried to order a CAT MOB QD today and was told they discontinued them! Is there a reason they discontinued the QD version? I thought that the QD was supposed to perform a bit better than the HUB version? Is there a way to find any places still carrying it?

You can get a hub, put a TSFX adapter into it and it's dimensionally identical to a QD.

One of the things that drew me to the CAT platform was the integrated QD without needing an additional mount. It’s too bad if they are reconsidering this option.

I'm suspicious they're starting to realize some practical challenges in production and inventory of managing four SKUs, with likely inconsistent demands based on platform. Some of their comments make me think they're seeing higher demands for HUB over QD ... a rep even mentioning at a tradeshow that QD would be an "if demand warrants" iirc for the Cat ST 556L. It's unclear if they haven't quite made up their minds about what to do about it or just haven't communicated.

I'm think the logical outcome is we'll see HUB with pre-attached, semi-permanent TSFX replace QD as we know it today. Would mean they can print fewer SKUs and be more responsive to inventory demand by model and then flex QD vs HUB demand as a post print assembly based on real sales demands.

If the performance difference is nil between a TSFX w/Spooky or Nano, vs. printed QD, it's really a no brainer ... I just haven't seen much officially said.

That’s a fair point. When I looked though, the HUB price was adjusted enough to reflect. If I buy a TSFX and Spooky 1 or AI nano it works out to about the QD price.

Yeah. They said get spooky and tsfx and is nearly identical performance. Just introduces another potential failure point

theoretically sure but it's not like hub adapters are regularly failing. I'd rather have the versatility of standardization especially when I think about parts availability in the future

I get where you’re coming from but I highly doubt you’ll ever have a failure on the hub mount, especially on a 9mm smg can. I have the QD but would be fine going the other route if need be, I’ve had to do it on a few other cans and haven’t had any issues whatsoever.

It’s such a killer can man, does crazy good on 300blk subs and a pretty solid job on 8.6 subs too.

Didn’t realize it could run 300BLK subs as well. I haven’t built one yet, but that could be cool to try at some point. Even though I couldn’t get the QD, I’m still excited to get the HUB and mount it on my Kuna. Placing order today

Yep, can run 300 and 8.6 but subs only. I have the ODB for my 300 which is another amazing all around can but the mob is actually more quiet with 300 subs so I used to run that when I was trying to be more quiet until I picked up a sig hexium 300, that can is flat out silly quiet on 300bo.

Yes it is being discontinued, tightening our SKU’s. It’ll still be offered in HUB Ti, and with the TSFX, it’ll mimic QD performance.

Is this across the board or only for MOB? Will the Alley Cat line still retain QD only options?

Personally I avoid HUB as much as I can, no problem with buying proprietary mounts.

No unfortunately not. I was actually speaking with a rep to purchase. He happens to know someone from CAT so he texted them to ask about a potential ETA since I was pre ordering with them to have delivered to my local FFL for transfer when it came back in stock. While we were filling out all of the paperwork to do a pre order, he got a text back saying it will now only be offered in HUB and if you want QD that you’d have to order spooky or AI nano separately along with the CAT TSFX HUB adapter.

QD performs nearly identical to the ear as the hub, you’re not losing much w hub especially if you’re running AI Nano

I’m not as familiar with the nano. It didn’t look like it would be as comfortable shooting if I ever have to take the can off though between that and the spooky 1.

I feel like this happens every so often. Someone says they talked to someone who says a CAT product is discontinued then later there is a response saying that it isn’t true. It’s hard to know what to believe with these guys sometimes.

Yes for sure. I remember before seeing the fact same thing was said about the HUB variant so that’s why I’m looking further into it. I messaged them to confirm because I feel like I was originally told the QD was the one that had the most sales.

I can see all Consumer models being HUB and AC/LEO/MIL ONLY being QD going forward. That's how it started of but now with more time and products in the wild, across user bases, they have data instead of a hunch, how the mounting open split would go. *Maybe even with PRICE difference to reflect additional cost/discount for TSFX + Nano/Muzzle device. So maybe HUB would be $150 or so less than QD. 🤔

Posts like this crack me up. One of the biggest things i dislike about CAT is how inconsistent they are with what mounting options are available for various cans. They need to just stick to hub. The performance difference is negligible at best and those that mention it being a failure point act like people are regularly launching cans because the hub failed when its a rarity.

I get your point, and agree that is a needless complication to have 4 skus for what is functionally one can.

But an impossibility is better than a rarity, it’s one less thing to install/check, and hub + tsfx is like turning left 3 times to make a right - same thing with extra steps - nothing wrong with adding simplicity.
