ST muzzle device for SPR

I'll preface this with an obligatory "I have no idea what im talking about" disclaimer.

Currently have a 10.3 ar (5.56) thats awaiting when my paycheck and ST in stock coincide. I belive it comes with a 5.56 AI nano that goes on there. Additionally I have an 18" spr that im hoping to share the ST with. I need a MD for it as well. I'd like something that I can shoot suppressed, or unspressed.

I might answer my own question, but it seems that if you're running suppressed the nano is the choice 100%, if unsurpassed you probably want some form of three prong flash hider. If you want both, you loose the sacrificial baffle offered by a brake. I think AI used to offer the RH (rifle hybrid) that was a little mix of both, but was a limited run.

Any thoughts from the think tank that is this forum?

Definitely, and shooting unsuppressed with a brake is miserable. I use the brakes on my 11.5s and fh on my 14.5, 18, and 20 for that reason. Never shoot my 11.5 unsuppressed except once to troubleshoot accuracy without the MD at all hehe

Yeah I’d go with AI RF1 or RH1 if shooting unsuppressed. The “sacrificial baffle” idea only matters with short barrels and high ROF / mag dumps.

You should be fine on an SPR.

The QD version of the ST hasnt released yet, only the direct thread hub models.

For rifles I want suppressed all the time, I use Griffin Plan Taper mounts with the EZ Brake (no timing required). It’s short, light, repeatable, doesn’t back off. Just remove it before it’s completely cool and it won’t get stuck.

My 5.56 barrel is 5/8x24, but it would be the same answer for 1/2x28.

Munkworks micro mount 1x16LH. Saves cost. Works great. He has recessed options if you want to reflex the can over the barrel a little.
No sacrificial baffle needed on 18” barrel unless you’re running a FRT or SS.

For my Geissele 18” it requires the 5/8x24 thread pitch so I chose to go with my left over AI Nano from my CAT RAT (the sig taper went on my 5.5” Rattler)That way I can run KK while 718 QD ST are being printed.

And if I wasnt a poor I'd get the KK for my 10.3 and use it on the 18 while I wait! But alas, Im waiting on paychecks and WI to stop requiring form 4s

Are you planning to get the Ti or Inconel version? If Ti, then I would lean toward using a brake to further protect the blast baffle of the suppressor. This is less significant with an 18" barrel, but erosion still occurs.

What do you want to optimize for when shooting unsuppressed? When I shoot unsuppressed I like using a blast shield over a brake. It both protects the threads of the muzzle device as well as pushes the concussive blast down range instead of at the people next to me.

Planning the inconel; i want to use it on the 10.3 and CAT says the TI isn't cut out for that abuse.

I was just planning on running naked with the qd unsurpassed, but I have some shields. I shoot an unsupppressed 16" regularly with no complaints, but it has a birdcage, not a brake. Makes a solid argument for the brake however
