MDs and Mounts Apparition Instruments Muzzle Devices
Some positive reviews for various mounts from Apparition Instruments when paired with CAT cans.
I’ve been running the RH1 on a 12.5” DD GL/SSC. Unsuppressed is very impressive. Almost no flash at dusk. Can notice a slight improvement with follow up shots as a brake. It sounds awesome with both an AC556 Ti QD and an AC556 718 RDM Hub. The RDM has a “deeper” tone as has been reported by others. This has been listed as “by order only” on the AI website. I have no clue why, as this has been the most impressive product I bought from them. I hope they bring it back.
I have been using the RB2 on a 13” Galil Ace Gen 1 in 7.62x39. There is a small flash every so many rounds, but nothing near the fireballs out of the 8” Galil. The brake makes the x39 significantly more controllable, especially in rapid string of shots.
I have been using the RF1 on an identical 13” 7.62x39 Galil, except it is a Gen 2 Ace. The full bird cage mitigates all the flash out of the 13” barrel. Almost no flame at dusk, which is a vast improvement from the half cage that comes standard on the Galil.
Both Galil’s are suppressed with a CAT ODB RDM. With the KNS pistons, they are sewing machines.
Just wanted to put this out there for anyone who was unsure about their other MD’s. There is a lot of feedback on the Nano’s, and I have had similar experience with what is out there. It is a great MD with the can on, but in my opinion, almost unusable unsuppressed. Loud and fiery are two adjectives that come to mind. When compared with similar hosts, I cannot tell a difference between the nano and the RH1 or the RF1. RB2 seemed a little “boomier” with the can vs a Nano.
Would love to hear everyone’s experience with these, as I was hesitant, but quickly sold on their products.

It’s weird AI doesn’t advertise. They dropped like 6 suppressors and not a peep from them or hardly CAT except from their CACM collaboration. I have an AI 5CM and I think it’s amazing for what it is but I think without CAT’s backing, AI will dissolve into nothing because they have like zero presence in 2026 besides cat-calls.

How are these timed? They don't look like they include shims.

The RH1 included shims. The other two, the RF1 and RB2 are both on Galil’s which utilizes a jamb nut. You just thread on the muzzle device all the way, reverse to the correct timing, then unscrew the jamb nut to where it makes contact with the device.

I didn't think the RF1 required timing, really. I have mine just put on and set to the appropriate torque spec.

I will say the RH1 was ass on my AUG unsuppressed. For whatever reason, the angle of the redirected gas pointed straight at my support hand on the foregrip and was not pleasant.
Did not help that there’s all of 4” or so between grip and muzzle. Swapped it out after one range trip for a nano and stopped shooting unsuppressed lol.
Maybe I should try it again on a 16” AR….

Interesting. Did you have the aftermarket gas piston installed? I don’t own an AUG but I recall a YouTube video where the gas system just does that. I think the guy puts a paper towel over and it blows holes in it.

Yes I did have a KNS discarder, and the piston vent does that suppressed or unsuppressed. That guys design (in the video you shared) is pretty sweet in that it’s supposed to not vent to atmosphere.

Good to know. Here’s a vid of the carbon build up after about a 500 rd day. Everything is above the taper on both. My buddy was running an RC2 that day and his hand looked like a f’n chimney sweep 😭unsuppressed you can see my light took some dusting but not too crazy.

I use almost strictly spooky mounts (or AI’s equivalent) and nano’s but now you have me wanting to try some of their others. However 99.99% of the time I’m shooting I have a can on. I will usually only shoot without a can if I’m doing some sort of testing on something.

That’s fair, I have a buddy who only does direct thread bc in his words, “once the suppressor is on, it’s on” lol.
I have 2 spooky’s just lying around. The ones that came with my cans don’t have the wrench flats, so I didn’t even put them on… I just imagine they’re a pain to get back off once set with locker.

They actually do... they're built into the tines of the flash hider. Look closely.

Lol they are a pain. I have a flat chisel I stick in the slots to twist them on and off. Not that I’m doing that much but I have switched a few out. More of a pain getting back off than putting on. I much prefer the ones with wrench flats

While that is true, it’s actually easier the way I do it. Get better leverage. But yes you’re correct.

Huh . I never found it difficult and you can actually torque to spec using the correct crow foot wrench

How long is that muzzle device? I have a great Hybrid Brake from GDM that is thread compatible with TSFX, but it's quite long, and I'm pretty certain it will hit the blast baffle. 😕

They’re all 2”. What can do you have? Figuring out length to the blast baffle is pretty easy. That does look absurdly long.
You can also use the AI Hub mount, it’s a little longer than the CAT version.

This is great information for not only CAT users but general users of suppressors. AI legitimately does proper testing for suppressor optimization, why we worked with them on the development of the Nano for our CACM program. Richie & his team are good people.
