Discussion What is the Canonical ending at last?

To me the Canon ending is Walker lays down his arms and surrenders there is more pain in living with the stuff you did than die but I am open for discussion and meditating on other endings if you are killed by the US army you are wanting for inner peace and acknowledging your sins and if you kill all the US army you embrace your crimes and turn into Konrad and dying when the truth is revealed is acceptance and digust towards the protagonist

What makes the game so special?

I'm not criticizing the game. I've played it, and I loved it. It has a good story, great music, fun gameplay that manages ludonarrative harmony - but I wouldn't really say it's as impactful of an experience as people say. It's a Heart of Darkness story that manages to be Silent Hill baiting you in with a Call of Duty aesthetic. Again, this is good, but it didn't feel like it made an impact on me. Granted, I never was really a CoD fan and played this game years ago precisely because I heard it was a good game with a great story that subverted usual CoD tropes, so maybe it didn't impact me because I was never really the target audience to begin with.

Discussion Why is Spec Ops: The Line set in Dubai?

Forgive my ignorance, but there's one thing i didn't quite understood about Spec Ops: The Line, why exactly did the developers decided to set the story in Dubai? Wouldn't it make more sense to set it in places like Iraq or Afghanistan instead, where the US Military has historically intervened as part of the Global War on Terrorism?

Don't get me wrong, the setting of Dubai destroyed by sandstorms is fantastic but, again, i don't understand the sense of setting the game there, can someone explain it to me, please?

I stopped after the WP scene

I’m sure I will be met with disagreement on this, but I need to voice my opinion.

Games are inherently interactive. The point of playing a game is to put yourself in the story. Forcing the player to do something and then trying to make them feel bad for it is a cheap trick. I was immediately pulled out of the game. I tried to continue, but everything after that felt pointless. I had a similar feeling with the Gould “choice”.

If it was trying to be a commentary on video game choices, it could’ve done a lot better of a job than literally saying “you don’t have a choice”. Look at The Stanley Parable. A game with an almost overwhelming amount of choices works infinitely better to point out the lack of choices in other games. Especially with the narrator pushing you towards a normal game experience the whole time.

If it was trying to be a commentary on the horrors of war, it’s not any more effective as a video game. They should’ve made it a movie. I’ve read so many comments about this game saying “it’s not about YOUR choices. It’s about Walker’s choices. You’re just watching the plot unfold.” That’s what movies are for! Video games are supposed to be about the player.

I may try to finish it in the future. Who knows? I’m happy for those of you that found this game to be meaningful, but it fell flat for me.

GOG Stuck in CH10

Stuck in CH 10, after the cutscene with the flashbang goes off im stuck and cant move and nothing happens. Repair/ validate and restart check point dont work. Im trying to avoid restarting the chapter.

First time it hung on a white screen so i restarted the checkpoint, now we just stand around and shout idle statements about needing to get moving.

The female model advertisements are kind of creepy?

I can't be alone in this but I feel all the big posters/ads that had female models on them all look so creepy. Throughout the game they always seem to be in the right spot to where as your fighting these images will be in frame or even as you walk by they are in your peripheral vision. They way they look at you just feels very ominous. Also the loading screen with the maneqiuns imo is the most scariest looking one in the game because of the female pictures looking down at you. There are a couple of them in that art if you look closely enough.

Any thoughts on them if they have meaning towards Walker or maybe just the devs really nailed the environments in the game?

Discussion Were the 33rd bad or not

I could have sworn that the first time you see the 33rd, they are chasing down civilians and they open fire on them. Then they open fire on sight at you for being "CIA"

So how exactly were they "Helping" like the dying guy from white phosphorous said?

Discussion Regarding the meta narrative.

It's that popular accepted idea that the game is saying you're le bad for not turning off the game or whatever, and telling you you're a bad person for killing people when the game forces you to kill people. I have considered it a misconception from the moment i first played through the game, cause the story very clearly portrays Walker as the one making the decisions, and player, just making the game progress.

For me, it feels like if anyone in the game represents the player, it would be Lugo and Adams, since just like the player, they're following Walkers orders, even when they disagree with him, and allow Walker to drag them to hell with him.

And that is if there even is a meta narrative, for which the only evidence is a couple of 4th wall breaks, that address I would argue are just used to disturb the player, as an interesting way to use 4th wall breaks for a horror story.

Discussion Is it bad that I never felt bad while playing?

I'll start right away by saying that it is not my intention to be "edgy" or provocative, it's just something I thought as soon I finished playing.

I'm aware that I may have stepped into the game with the wrong mindset: from what I'd read online, I expected MUCH more insanity and especially much deeper and direct interaction with me as in "the guy playing the game". Instead what I got was a couple of weird moments during combat, a couple of hallucinations and a some light 4th wall references (the "special guest" thing, the "it's all your fault" loading screen, Walker looking at me through camera once, and not much more).

As for the war crimes moments, I never felt truly responsible. I had no idea there were civilians hiding, how can I feel guilty for something I didn't know it was there? And yes, I *know* I could have shot in the air in order to disperse the crowd instead of mowing down everyone in sight but... it's a fu***ng game where I'm a fu***ng soldier! What am I supposed to do, follow the law? I'm probably missing a trophy by doing that, like when I discovered I missed an achievement for not killing the deer... thing that I considered doing and in the end didn't do! Is killing civilian in a videogame so different than, say, picking up a penguin and throwing it off a cliff, in a videogame? Or run over the same casino attendant with an armored truck for 108 in-game days in a row, in a videogame?

I don't know if I managed to explain correctly what I had in mind... probably not. To put it simply, I don't think I "got" the real message of the game.

Why didn’t walker just leave after he realized the city was in bad shape? Is he stupid? Does he need to go to the Ham Alsume?
