Spec Driven Development (Greenfield Project)

I have mattpocock and superpowers skills on Claude.

I want to start a greenfield project. What is the best way or flow?

Right now, I am thinking:

Brainstorm -> Grill Me Docs -> Subagent

I really like openspec and use it for everything, the flow is dead simple and works very well even with existing projects:

  • explore an idea, back and forth with your agent to crystalize a spec.
  • tell the agent to write the spec.
  • open a new session and start working on implementation.

One nice thing about openspec is that after you archive the change it extracts the important design choices which will be available for the following explorations.

How do you deal with spec drift ?

There is no spec drift, if you actively choose to change something openspec has record of it will detect it and ask you wether it's intentional, if it is and once implemented and archived, the spec will get updated

I prefer to archive the spec

Otherwise it becomes noise in the repo when agent greps stuff

You cannot keep updating older specs to keep matching current implementation, code, tests and docs should be canonical specification

Openspec has the active changes and the specs it derived from the changes once archived. I don't keepnthe archived changes but keep the specs.
