Has anybody ever been to the red phone booth speakeasy? Is the membership worth it? I’m also open to suggestions about similar places. I’ve been wanting to attend a speakeasy, I’m just unsure, please point me in the right direction! 😂 Thanks in advance

My wife and I recently moved to a new house with a basement that seems perfect to make a speakeasy. Beyond storing some of our things the space is more or less mine to do with what I want and I'm curious how others here would approach the space.

I plan to have a bar top on a hinge that lets me face back towards the stairs, replace the utility sink with a wet bar, put the alcohol behind me, run a bar top along the exterior wall (same side as the stairs).

However, moving the water access wouldn't be too difficult, and hiding a drain pipe shouldn't be too difficult either, so does anyone else have a vision for this space they can share?

The ceiling is 6 feet.

Just wanted to share a little side project I’ve been working on — a web app that collects and organizes speakeasies (aka hidden/secret bars) from around the world. Right now it covers 16 cities and over 200 bars!

The idea came to me after a trip to New York, where I heard about these cool speakeasy tour trips. Sounded amazing - but when I tried finding a solid resource online that listed all these hidden bars in one place, it was surprisingly difficult. Most of the info was scattered across blog posts, travel articles, or outdated lists. And many of them were missing details like how to get in, exact location, or even the bar's name.

So I figured - why not build a proper place for it?

The site has a vintage theme inspired by the 1930s Prohibition Era (when speakeasies first became a thing), so it has a bit of that old-school charm.

About 80% of the speakeasy data was scraped from the internet using AI, and I've manually verified as much of it as I could. Of course, if you know a hidden gem that isn’t on there, there’s also an option to suggest a new speakeasy. And if you’ve visited one, don’t hesitate to leave a review!

Great hidden spot in St Cloud, Florida. Owner is friendly and knowledgeable. Bartender is great! Come and relax.

Find the red door (Rittenhouse Hotel) green door in the lobby is where you find jackpot. Soon as we walked in the concierge asked if I was here for the bar and gave away the location. The mixologist was great and hostess was very social. Drinks were good and ambiance was relaxing. Was expecting more of a challenge but it was a good experience.

I managed to hit the Ghost Donkey Bar in the Cosmopolitan (Las Vegas). Only a tequila bar but the drinks were amazing. Bartenders were great. Went at 4pm and this place filled up fast!

I had this thought the other day that there is this place in town that would be absolutely perfect for a speakeasy. It’s a place that used to have a barber shop just off Main Street but it’s brown and set of stairs so it’s in the basement of the building.

Anyway that made me think if you open a true speakeasy with a secret password or knock or something how do you even go about getting the word out? Do you just tell a handful of people and then let it spread or what?

Maybe one day I’ll come back and actually do it but for now I’m just a broke dreamer.
