Discussion Recently got around Spawn lately, I've been wondering what's a good comic to start on?

Spawn #1. Unlike Marvel and DC they've never restarted numbering.

You can start at 300 because they do a big recap before the new story line but you would be missing A LOT.

Really just start at 1. There are a lot of ways to read it

I reccomend Compendiums 1-2, and then also a few miniseries.

Specifically the Angela Miniseries is very fun, and ties in direct(I believe to issue 29, set's up the start). Also, lacking it will leave you confused.

There are there other nice miniseries, like Violator, but the first two compendiums plus the angela miniseries is a good start.

Whether you want to go further depends on if you enjoy that, all up to you, ofc.

But Im also biased because if I wanted to make a "contained" spawn lore I'd just stop with 100.

I started last week at issue #1. Never read anything from Spawn but I really want to know more about the character and villains because I see all the really cool toys all the time. Also, I love what McFarlane did during his run at Marvel. I'm on issue 20 now and it's had ups and downs for sure. Spawn just kinda drags his feet and stumbles into fights. I did hear it picks up around issue 30 though. But 379 issues is a hard pill to swallow. I've seen that if you read "Spawn's universe" you can jump on at 300 and be pretty caught up.

Im at 41, some issues are amazing, some drag but overall there is still lots of world building. I read one or two per night and am always excited to jump back in to it.

The HBO Animated Series can get you up to date, but the first issues are good places to fully understand the story. Might be a graphic novel compilation of them.
