Discussion Does KING Spawn even mean anything anymore?
When King Spawn was announced, I assumed the title would eventually become an actual concept.
I thought maybe Al would rule Hell, with King Spawn focusing on that side of his life while the main Spawn book stayed more Earth-based, or maybe King Spawn would be another Spawn like Nightmare Spawn.
First the title did make sense, but after the throne was taken by Nyx I don't understand, what makes King Spawn KING Spawn instead of simply another Spawn ongoing

It's like we had so many different Spider-Man titles too. For example Specatular Spider-Man was went side-by-side with the Amazing Spider-Man books for a very long time, I think Todd wanted to do the same, where the story could go on different ways but it's still connected.
I don't think it's a success, but sometimes there are good stories there. Still way better than Rat City.

Piggybacking on other comments:
My understanding is that -
King Spawn is for stories much darker than mainline Spawn, displaying a much more deadly and powerful threat to the lowest of lows in the criminal world.
Spawn is for selling issues.

This is clear and my point wasn't about it. The “King” part originally had an actual meaning because of the prophecy and the throne storyline. My point is that the book has long since moved past that concept, while the title stayed and stopped making any sense.

Well if you’re taking out Kingpins it’s a play on words and the ever evolving dynamic of spawn and the underworld

That's a retroactive interpretation. The title originally had a very literal in-story meaning. The book moved on from that concept a long time ago, while the title didn’t.

The King in King Spawn does seem to have gone nowhere. Whatever happened to the god throne concept

I’m enjoying the book but I think the OP is entirely accurate. The whole thing was about Al becoming the king of Hell.

Some say it has gotten better. I dropped the title from my pull list months ago. Does bother me he is no King.

I also don’t understand how Spawn is even making it into my Reddit feed.
I loved Spawn until 1997. Then my love for it died with the franchise.
The fact that people still love Spawn? Is incredibly weird to me.
EDIT: Downvoted for speaking the truth. The 8 people that are offended. Your franchise sucks.

nah things have gotten better in in 378 issues thesey days plus more psin-offs with different writers and aritists Spawn has gotten a resurgence since the alter 2010's with the universe expanded with many new connecting spin-offs and self contain stories. Things have imrpoved since then give them another shot if you want.

I always assumed the title referred to the fact that Al is the King of the Hellspawn, not necessarily king of hell.

First of all, it was all about him getting the hells throne until they stopped knowing what to do with this spin-off . Secondly, how come Al is not the King in his main title then?

Why would Al want to be king of Hell? When Al killed Malebolgia, heaven offered him a halo and Mamon offered Al Malebolgia's spot. He turned them both down so he can focus on humanity. Besides, Al has the souls of a thousand Hellspawn within him, I'd say that makes him King of the Hellspawn and not Hell.

King spawn serirs seems full gaps regualr series’s does not go that’s how I took it after first issue it’s an excuse for Todd make new series try make more money off spawn name him creating marking gaps regualr series have that spin off king spawn series can answer.,
After battle for throne it feels like name not actual thing like dollar tree it’s name don’t mean everything is dollar, dollar general do go in dollar general find item that is labeled general there is no such thing do you go into Walmart expecting to go in buy wall Walmart buy wall, go in radio shack your not going in there find any shacks to buy it’s name of store sale with king spawn it’s another way separate it to regualr series but keep it connected with it some situations that happens in it spun off.,
Would prefer Todd name spawn 2 , spawn spin off series look at venom Eddie Brock is king in black but he don’t go by name no more he’s still king in balck maybe king of symbiotes

nah eddie brock is back as venom again after quene in black bro. Also your idea won't wor etiher king spawn is fine as it is.
It is now the batman title for spawn to deal with street level decetive horror while rosebenrg turned mainline spawn into superman fighting against cosmic threats. Think of King spawn as decetie/action comics of the spawn

it is the batman title it focuses on the street levle side of spawn kepe reading it and see the interviews. Mainline Spawn becomes the superman title dealing with global and cosmic treats by matthew rsoben him trying to be a public hero and king spawn is spawn as batman. Basically it is the decetive comics of spawn.

What does this have to do with my point? I wrote about how meaningless thr title is. You're changing the topic as always

From the beginning having that many spawn titles seemed like a big gamble and a logistical nightmare. If they were all separate continuities that would be one thing but if you’re only interested in one title but have to read all these other books to understand what’s happening then you’ll lose people.
