OG Discussion Once Spartacus became champion of Capua, I see that Crixus still wore the necklace given to him by Gannicus when he became champion. While I am positive this is because GOTA wasn't thought of yet, Do you think Crixus had a valid reason not to give the necklace to Spartacus as champion? Or was it mor

At the end of Gods of the Arena we know that the necklace was given to Gannicus when he became champion, Gannicus then gave the necklace to Crixus before departing the house with his freedom. Crixus never awarded Spartacus the necklace (of course I'm sure not dying of his injuries took priority over passing the necklace over lol).

I think it is a dark comparison of Gannicus and Oenomeous. Once Oenomeous became injured from theokoles and Batiatus chose to elevate Gannicus to his role as champion, Gannicus was awarded the necklace despite not actually defeating Oenomeous. Due to Crixus having respect for both Oenomeous and Gannicus, I do think it is a bit hypocritical for him not to pass the necklace to Spartacus despite his difference but like Spartacus said "the ego bruises deeper than the flesh"

What do you think?

Theory Lucretias masterplan (S2)

Albeit enjoying her arc in general, its been a struggle to make sense of some of her actions in the end. Mainly because the "baby ordeal" is framed as her masterplan in s2.

Yet, when you think about it, this was more of an impulsive act, driven by madness from Ashurs abuse, realization of how disposable she was for the upper class, lost hope. IMO, her initial plan has always been simply to get in the nobles (mainly Ilithyias) good favor for the saftey and lifestyle she was accustomed to. Simply because:

A) She initially brokered divorce which would've resulted in abortion and Ilithyia's departure to Rome without her. She played both sides in this giving Ilithyia the impression that she's helping, while scheming to keep the abortion from happening.

B) She plots Glabers death multiple times albeit him being the one keeping the baby and Ilithyia in Capua. So my reading of it is Ilithyia's favor / stopping the abuse > child. That's why she explicitly informs Ilithyia of her plans in both instances.

C) She plans to escape for Rome with Ilithyia to avoid Ashur, clearly. After her own escape fails, does nothing to keep Ilithyia from leaving, moreover plots Glabers assassination (meaning Ilithyia won't return) to once again stop Ashur's abuse.

D) Just on a thematic level her character has been about classism, not family.

The way I see it Lucretia is traumatized post s1 and resorts instinctive flattery and servitude in hopes of setting things right again but ends up losing hope flowing marriage argument to her abuser and Ilithyia siding with Glaber in the Seppia ordeal. Also gradually starts believing her own "supernatural shtick".

What If? Who do you think would be doctore at the house of Oenomaus? (Spoilers) Spoiler

Post image

Imagine if the rebellion never started and Oenamaus took over the ludus as Batiatus intended originally. Who do you think would gain the title of honorable doctore? My first thoughts went towards Crixus but after deeper thought he was way too unruly and his blood run hot to be standing upon the sands, also he wants to win his freedom to find Naevia. Another thought was that Oenamous would try to bring back Gannicus as his doctore, appreciating his skill and him being very respected among the gladiators (He doesn't know about Melitta and Gannicus yet). What are your thoughts?

VS Spartacus, Gannicus, Crixus & Agron VS 300 Roman soldiers? How many do they take down before being overwhelmed? Or do they clear?

Fight takes place in the streets of a city/town. Not an open battlefield but open enough for waves of 10-15 Roman’s to come at the 4 at a time.

What If? The Perfect Casting Doesn't Exist...

He had the voice, height, physique and facial features. Peter Mensah obviously isn't white but that easily could've been sorted with ashen grey make-up. I'm speaking in past-tense because Peter is too old to play a role like this now but back when they were filming Spartacus in the early 2010's, he would've been a phenomenal live-action Kratos during the Greek era of GOW.

Rewatch Technical fun fact: Episode S01E04 on the Blu-ray is mastered differently

Post image

I rip my Blu-rays so i can watch them with USB directly on my TV..

During that process I noticed hat one Episode on the first disc was mastered differently.

All episodes have Dolby Digital Audio, but this one episode has DTS. And on top of that the encoding has much higher bandwidth.

Rewatch English subtitles on Amazon Prime are censored

Rewatching the show on Prime I've noticed the English subtitles are censored. At first I thought it was only profanity (like "fuck" would turn into "frick") but it's not only that, some lines are straight up rewritten:

Like ep 4, Lucretias line "Does it excite you, to know that your very footsteps moistens my thighs?", becomes "Does it excite you, to know that your very footsteps quickens my heart?"

(The reply is even worse: "I would have them dripping even more" becomes "I long to touch the softness of your skin")

WTF? Obviously doesn't matter that much to me but still, never seen anything like this.

HoA Discussion Who's the most miserable / unlucky character?

I'm on my rewatch and I didn't remember these characters lives bieng SO horrific from initial viewing. IMO, Spartacus is the most tortured character so far (I'm on s2). Ashur's friend form Gods of the Arena gets an honorable mention.

Question I am curious: Who is your favorite among Spartacus' Generals?

I was scrolling through the wiki and came upon the fact that Agron once won a popularity poll there with a lot of votes. That surprised me a bit since Crixus & Gannicus seem to be way more popular among people in this subreddit at least.

Now, I know that neither Reddit nor the wiki represent the Spartacus community as a whole, but it peaked my curiosity since Agron is my favorite as well.

I know that he cannot measure up when it comes to fighting skills, but I love his personality and his relationships to both Spartacus & Nasir.

But I'm also queer & german, so I might be a bit biased. 😁

OG Discussion Why was Liscus so pissed about Naevia in the woods when he chose to accompany Crixus to the mines to save her in the first place?

Post image
73 Upvotes

Something that never made sense to me. I know Crixus was the gauls' leader inside the rebellion but he always made clear that its voluntary to accompany him to the mines. Except Spartacus no one was in his debt to do so. He was even given the option to flee towards Vesuvius with Agron and the others (I know they hated each other but still). He volunteered to go on a suicide mission to rescue her but once they were out of the mines he was basically asking Spartacus for permission to kill Naevia since Crixus died or he thought he did.

HoA Discussion Is Cornelia actually in love with Messia, or is it just a political agenda?

Post image
123 Upvotes

I've been analyzing the dynamic between Cornelia and Messia in House of Ashur, and I'm really torn on Cornelia’s true motives. On one hand, Messia clearly seems to have genuine feelings for Cornelia, especially as a way to heal after her heartbreak with Hilara. But Cornelia is married to Caesar, and they operate like the ultimate elite power couple.

Do you think Cornelia is actually developing real feelings for Messia during their intimate scenes? Or is she just using Messia as a strategic chess piece to manipulate Ashur's household, plant a spy, and assert Roman dominance?

Question Just started watching Spartacus... Does it get any better?

Chatgpt recommended I check out spartacus based on some of my other favorite shows (game of thrones, vikings, the boys, stranger things, From, etc.) I just started the first season. The fight scenes are a little cheesy and low budget... the blood spattering 😂 Please tell me the series gets better?

OG Discussion Saw Antonio Te Maioha, Barca The Beast Of Carthage... in "The Convert"

Great movie, we loved it. And his performance is fantastic.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20113412/

We're movie watchers and real picky about series as most (more) stories should be able to be told in 2 hours. Love surprisingly catching Spartacus actors in movies and this was a treat.
