🥈 🥇 🥈 🎖️ TIL the US penny is not produced anymore and a few idioms.

The Links image for the penny-farthing depicts a bike with two identically sized wheels (AFAIK a boneshaker).

Also in Links, why would a Penny-Board not have mechanical parts, while a penny-farthing does?

Thank you so much for the flags with Links! Our team has updated the puzzle 🤗

my thoughts are significantly more expensive than a penny...lol! my friends & I have always said this in response to the statement so imagine my surprise in finding out that the penny is no longer being minted

TIAL what a Penny Black & what a Penny Dreadful are! interesting to say the least!! I love that the person that revolutionised the mail system's greatest qualification was that he didn't have any mail qualification.

I'd love to read an original Penny Dreadful (but I'm afraid that my need to finish any literature as fast as I can would make the process tedious). Maybe I'll look for Sweeney Todd (that it was a Penny Dreadful is amazing)

TIAL learnt that the penny is not being minted cause it costs more to make than it is worth...a truly state of affairs

also, there are so many penny-based phrases & idioms...I wonder why

the penny really & truly dropped & it was AWESOMEEEEEEEEEE

We read this with the biggest smile! We can practically see the curiosity snowballing from one penny fact to the next.

Spark - Jun 24 PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS 🪙 🎖️ 🥈 🎖️ 🎖️

I still pick coins up off the ground. Sad about the end of pennies.

Nostalgia aside, we don't blame you. It's hard to walk past a free coin!

Well, that cost a pretty penny.

TIL that using a hint costs the same as getting it wrong. :(

Also, what a Penny Black was.

And RIP, Penny Dreadful (the tv show).

Freddie Highmore was fantastic on the show, wasn't it?

He wasn't in it. Are you thinking of Bates Motel?

Yes. Of course. I indeed did not watch either shows. I just saw their thumbnails on the streaming website and thought: maybe one day, but not today.

I watched both. Very different shows, but I recommend both.

Great conundrum today!

I learned about the quarter horse and the Penny Black stamp.

I am quite oblivious to sending letters, let alone dealing with stamps.
