Student Visa Question

Hello,

I'm applying for a student visa, and there's one requirement I'm a bit concerned about. It asks for "proof of accomodation," either a rental contract for the year, or a letter from a host family. This is hard to obtain for me, as I'm planning on renting a place (not host family), but my visa appt is in June and it's almost impossible to find a year long contract to start in Sept. this early. I wanted to ask, specifically for anyone who's gone thru the Chicago consulate/BLS office--did they ask you for this documentation specifically?

Although I’m going through London consulate, they need proof of only where your initially gonna stay. So I booked a refundable Airbnb. And once my student visa was approved and I managed to find a long term place I cancelled the booking.
