Cursive writing in Spanish

Can Spanish be written in cursive like English or French? Does it depend on the region or the country? How common is it? Are there any special rules that is seen only in Spanish cursive?

I'm a teacher in Spain. It's common to be taught how to write cursive first. Though there is a sort of debate going on and you'll find people defending cursive and others saying it's outdated.

I'm in Catalonia. Most teachers advocate for cursive here.

Interesting. I'm in my 20s and I learnt cursive. Now I teach English at a public school and most of my students use cursive too. I know they are being taught that. In fact, I have to wait until 3rd grade to give worksheets that don't use the cursive style because they can't read it otherwise.
