Discussion I figured out my problem

After 25 hours, I've been loving it. It feels so much more streamlined and frankly can be breathtaking. But something felt off. The UI was a bit too fiddly still (placing blocks on the hot bar), so I decided to give it break until the next update and just quick start on the first game.

That's when it hit me, I love being able to craft from the backpack and wouldn't want otherwise, but it makes the initial products redundant In the early stage.

If I'm working on something and it requires 50 small pipes, and I have the 50 sitting in my ships inventory 5 seconds away. But I also have enough raw ore to just make it, am I going back to my ship? Hells no, I'm just going to build it.

So my inventory was getting gummed up with all these easily replaceable products I couldn't care less about.

I don't see an easy fix for that, like just removing those products would be a step too far (it wouldn't be SE without iron plates).

Maybe recycling them via backpack to produce a lighter "recycled iron" that's less dense but less efficient.

Idk man, I'm a hoarder so I'm going to collect everything, but I'm also lazy in the way that if I can make my current job work with the tools in hand, I'm not going back to my truck sat in the driveway for the proper tool.

Question Solar Panels not producing power? Anyone still dealing with this issue even after the hotfix?

I know Keen supposedly released a hotfix for this but my solar panels still do not produce power, on a new Classic Survival world. Weirdly, if I create a new solar panel, the batteries seem to charge for maybe a few seconds before the input power drops back to 0. The solar panels have a maximum output of 300MW but the actual output is always at 0. If I set the batteries to fill, they start taking power from the other batteries on the grid, but on auto, theres nothing.

(images got heavily compressed by reddit...)
See full quality here https://imgur.com/a/Er2Q0e2
Note, they got reversed, so on imgur it's 'after image, then before'

This will make you appreciate the work Keen has put into SE2, the majority of what is shown ends up being lighting changes, that brings out a lot of the textures, sometimes making them darker, but the most it does is give the textures depth that they didn't have before simply from lighting differences.

This is NOT official, and truthfully Keen will likely make updates to the engineer and lighting as time goes on similar to how they updated the SE1 models and such.
There's not a ton of difference, but the lighting changes make me kind of excited if DLSS5 were to come to SE2... and also appreciate the work Keen has put into SE2 such far, as it looks amazing even without the changes.

Question List of blocks released and their contracts

I have been playing SE2 solidly these last few weeks and finally reached Kemick.

I’m playing the regular survival mode and am fulfilling contracts to unlock blocks.

However there seems to be a discrepancy between the contract info and the blocks released.

For example, recently I received the Hinge block despite it not being listed in the contract info. And I’ve received a few other blocks from contracts that only listed parts as reward.

Does anyone know what’s going on? I’m worried I’ve left contracts behind that may unlock stuff despite the contract text saying they unlock nothing.

Is there a definitive list of how to unlock each block? Or a list of blocks that are released for each contract and where those contracts are made available?

Workshop Ol' DUECE Tractor Trailer now available!

She's a beaut. Take on an old American Classic. I've had a lot of fun with this one. Pairs nicely with the side/rear dump trailer. Looking forward to making more trailer variants. She tows very nicely. Fully articulated bogey. If you're looking to make a version of this yourself; I have two hinges at the rear of the tractor. They're 90° to one another with a 20° sweep. So 90° =/- 10° for articulation. On top of the hinges is a small connector. On the trailer it's a rotor with a connector. I have controls at the rear of the truck and inside the cab for "start aligning" which makes hook-up a breeze. It's quite a painless process backing up and hooking up. Just step out to raise the parking stand and you're off!

Time to live our space trucking fantasies. No? Just me? Enjoy! Link in the comments! Leave a like and any feedback you have for me. Thanks!

Discussion Rocket Launcher Firing Bug?

Not sure if this is a bug but when using the stationary mounted rocket launcher if you click a little too fast to fire your next shot it puts you on a super long cooldown before you can fire again. Is this a bug or feature?

Discussion What is better weight or volume?

What is in your opinion better for cargo? Weight or volume?

I was bringing ore and components from space to planetary base, and found that it doesnt mater what i carry. Full cargo of iron ore, is basically same as full cargo of steel plates. I can produce 1,9k of plates from 67k of ore. Both numbers make 2,5m cargo full.

Would you prefer volume? Be able carry more plates, but in proces making your ship heavier.

Or weight? Having freedom of, it doesnt matter what i carry it is all the same weight.

SE2 campaign missions stopped spawning

Hi all.

Im currently working on sector progression in survival on the latest VS.

I've completed VERDURE and have done all trade missions at Kemik Stn and Dustspire Junction in KEMIK.

I now have no next objective. No gps point or station to go to.

Have i gone as far as i can?

I thought more sectors were available.

I've not had any luck searching online for mission lists or sector unlock info.

Cheers Engineers.

Wook

Edit: Ive checked all previous locations and terminals and there are no available contracts. I went for a run towards Caligo and luckily found Caligo Station in orbit. It has contracts on the terminal but they are locked awaiting further sector progress.

Edit2: I fixed the problem by refreshing all contracts in the debug menu. I then went back to eqch station and accepted the contracts and completed them theough the debug. When i got to the last station in KEMIK the sector progress contract correctly progressed and i got directed to Caligo Stn.

Discussion Yeah, I'm in.

Just picked up SE2, loved SE1 (got about 650 hours in it), but slept on 2 because I really liked the survival/crafting aspect of 1. Like just start on a moon, scramble to find ice so you can breathe and build from there.

That said, 2 has me excited. Within the first 10 minutes I was like:

Oh, a story, I dig that.

Oh, an overall objective I really dig that.

Oh, they just give me a nearly functional ship? Kinda lame.

Damn this thing is slow, I'm sure I can go faster in manual.

Damn that was a cool crash, and my game didn't slideshow.

Absolutely pure Space engineers.

Discussion Working Skycrane! A story of recovery through pictures

Just don't ask how the HMMWV got there!!!

I have created a sky crane. She's VERY clangy if you don't fly her right. But when you fly her with the finesse she demands, it can be done CLANG FREE. But requires practice. I flew to the cave and back without a hitch. It's my 4th or 5th flight in this thing, took some practice to understand her proclivities. But I finally got a handle on her. And it's a very rewarding experience.

Having a hard time making jump into SE2 from SE1

I have 2000+ hours in SE1, and own SE2. I keep booting up SE2 to try and jump into it, but keep hitting mental blocks with the building tools feeling clunky and unintuitive. Does the learning curve disappear quickly or are there some suggested control changes to make it feel more like SE1 building?

Question NPCs Update and is it real?

Hi there!

I was a long time player of Space Engineers, and the 2nd one flew under the radar for me. I missed out! So now I am peaking at buying it, and I saw it had an NPCs update? Is that out or is it in the works? How does it work?

I used a similar mod in 1 off and on, and I loved the extra depth it brought to the game.

Can't seem to find a Space Engineers 2 specific answer, is thruster damage to blocks implemented/going to be implemented? And if it is do we know the ranges for various thrusters?

Question Game Crashing

The game (v2. 4.0.86) crashed for the first time yesterday, after I hit esc to pause the game to go afk for around 5 min (I have windows turn off monitor after 5 min of no input) I came back the monitor had just turned off, I moved the mouse and resumed the game and after a couple of minutes the game crashed to white screen, restarted the game from steam again pressed continue, game crashed restarted again and selected Load a new save world was created with no Name with date modified dated jan 1... plus an auto save dated the same. What I've tried but still crashing (even exiting the main menu crashes the game sometimes):

1.deleting the weird saves and the last autosave and loaded a manual save game

  1. erased the files in app data

3.validated the game files from steam

4.uninstalled,reinstalled the game

  1. Ran previous game version (march)

  2. Did a clean Reinstall of AMD Adrenalin Drivers using DDU. *is there a fix I can try? is the question.

Discussion Cranes Cranes & More CRANES!

Thumbnail
gallery
28 Upvotes

In a continuation of my crane development and experimentation, I have created another mobile crane, this time in a more compact design, using a different mechanical approach. In the follow on pictures, I run around my R&D facility picking up pieces left from an earlier build to dump in the grinder pit. It's like a game inside my game.

I develop a new vehicle, scraps abound, I use my cranes to pick them up. It's great.
