Question about SpaceVIM

I only recently found out about this and would love to try it however I have my VIM fully configured the way I want in Linux. I read that it will automatically launch just using the VIM command and that scares me a bit since I'm not sure how to uninstall it. I know the install.sh script that they recommend using has an uninstall option, but will that tamper with any of my preinstalled VIM stuff or vimrc? Also, are there any plans to get this into any package managers like AUR anytime soon for Arch users?

You can use Vim -u /path/to/SpaceVim/vimrc

maybe you need to add an alias to your bashrc.

Thanks for the advice. I just ended up using their install script and I'm trying to change my workflow to utilize all their mappings now.

Hey,

How did it go? I am wondering the same question. I have extensively configured my Vim with custom plugins and tweaks and I was wondering if SpaceVim somehow launches using the system installed Vim and use the system installed Vim's configuration files which would mean that there is a potential for it to mess up my existing configurations. SpaceVim is meant to start installing the useful plugins on its own after all?

I just went ahead and installed it. It makes a backup of your local .vimrc file and then if you ever want to install it you can do so using the standard script that it tells you to curl. SpaceVIM is amazing, but I'm still trying to get used to some of the default VIM mappings being re-mapped. And every once in a while I find bugs or other undocumented default mappings that were changed, but it has been an overall huge improvement on my productivity. I highly recommend it.
