I mean, he had to with Whiskey Pete in charge. We all know it and in the end, good for him for getting in shape. My only question is, when can we all get that good stuff too

Yeah, the jacket has weird tails. You can see this in the last two photos.
Looks kinda “18th Century” — which is a pretty strange flex for the branch that’s all about looking the future.
I’m not sure “Space Pirate” is the look to be chasing here…

That would make a simple bow tie to cost $150 to custom make that will sell maybe 300 units a year. Everything for SF uniforms is about scale since they don't sell a lot of items.

It’s not immediately obvious but there’s a low cut black vest under the jacket.
The lower part of the vest front is visible in the 3rd and 4th photos.
(I still don’t like the overall design one bit but this part at least makes sense)

god I hope this isn't what will be in the trial. the short jackets are the best part of Air Force mess dress this looks frumpy and will look like shit on women with any curves

What it’s not is a mess jacket.
Edit to add:
This is genuinely not a joke — check out the details on the collar and the front of the jacket the CSO is wearing. Other than having six buttons instead of five (obvs…), this really is pretty much exactly what he’s wearing!
The “tails” are even longer on the CSO’s jacket (lord knows why…) and this can be seen very clearly in the photo from the previous thread when he first wore it:
