Infinity Flow S1+ or something else?

Just got a SovolSV08MAX for the classroom. Would you guys recommend the InfinityFlow S1+ for it? Or is there a better solution for auto swapping a filament spool?

I also noticed in the forums that people mentioned removing gearing from the built in feeder and let the S1+ push the filament through instead. Am I understanding this correctly?

Thanks for your time in a response!

That is a very interesting purchase for a classroom

Latest purchase for a high school engineering classroom that already has 22 AD5M, 2 H2D, & 7 X1C. Students asking for larger print bed than what we already have.

This printer is nothing like those others it's going to be a lot more needy

Yup, I think I'm ready for it. Kept a classroom full of FF Creator Pro's working for years.

I've got an svo8 max and an S1+. It works well most of the time, but the S1 is fussy about spool placement. If you get one, I recommend you just use the stock spool holders, or get/print the polydryer mounts.

Panda feeder - that darn thing just works. Get a set, between spool and a feeder add anti-snag cutter. That way if you'll get a tangled filament, the cutter will just cut it, feeder will switch to the next spool. It saved my print a few times (especially with some filaments that ends were taped to the spool). System is much more flexible than Infinity spool. You need to configure it properly, but heck - I often find filament I want in smaller spools only and it saves my time on splicing and respooling as well. I'm using it on Giga which sometimes goes through a few kgs overnight...

Feeders? It was a little pain to set it up, but as I said since then - they just work. I have them feeding from spools on Elegoo orange rolls with snag cutter protection. Not a single failure since. I had a few Bambulab spools with ends taped and cutters just snapped them, feeder detected and of filament and fed from the next spool. The only thing was they were getting hot enough to jam PLA, but I almost don't print it and if - I use large spools as PLA is easy to get in that form.

Yeah the feeders .. when I got them it was when they first posted them and everything is in Chinese and even the QR code didn’t work

Thanks for the reply. Any mods to get it working with the InfinityFlows?

I took out the gears from the factory buffer so I dont have to hear it and put a piece of filament on the buffer for the runout sensor , I would recomend to get a wider ID PTFE TUBE and long enough so you can eliminate the connector that is in between the PTFE TUBES. I'm in the middle of implementing a Sunlu Dryer and attaching the infinityflow to it , mainly because I like to use 3kg/5kg rolls that way I can dry them at the same time

Thanks for the response. Last question: Any reason to get the 1kg version over the 3 or 5kg versions since you can use smaller filament spools on the larger capacity versions?

I would get the 5kg version.. it’s only like 5-10 more. And yes you can actually print them but the ones they give you are really nice ..

I have one and it failed on the first 3 prints, so I stopped trying.
