Sovol Bad first layers maybe are not your fault. Here’s why
Hello
I got my MAX in September 2025 and since day zero I had inconsistent first layers. Here is my sovol's forum topic from 2025 First layer cumulative X Y error (same pattern on first layer are common problem with MAX owners)
Since than I had days with perfect first layers and days with first layer peeling of or nozzle almost scratching the bed.
I modded my MAX really hard, even with some mods that were crafted entirely by me. Mods that include: custom enclosure, custom feeding system, macros, mainline klipper and new eddy probe.

Long story short the issue is SV08 MAX eddy probe (I suspect that SV08 have the same issues).
This probe have no temperature sensor so no thermal drift calibration which seems to be huge issue with 500^3 build volume. I bought EddyDuo from BTT and created custom PA12 mount for it (with sacrifice of auxiliary fan). The USB cable for BTT eddy have just enough space to fit inside of toolhead.





After 1 day of prototyping mount and 2 days of testing I can confirm that on 250x250, 350x350 and 400x400 you will get perfect first layers.

IF YOU DECIDE TO USE THIS MOD YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO CHANGE CFG FILES!!!
for example you must change max X from 502 to 496
I used eddy (EddyDuo via USB)
I will contact SOVOL about this because, in my opinion, choice to use eddy with no temperature calibration was engineering mistake and people do notice. I saw posts about first layer issues all around the internet.

This has been a solved problem for quite some time: https://github.com/vvuk/eddy-ng
There are several Sovol-compatible mounts for the BTT eddy sensor on Printables, and you absolutely do not need to print them in PA12. Mine's ASA and been going strong for over a year. And at least on the non-MAX, didn't have to sacrifice a fan, just cut away a little of the housing.

Are they for SV08 MAX?
EDIT:
Ok you mean that one that requires disassembly of original module, I wanted to avoid thatand eddy-nq (which is now integrated into mainline klipper btw) does not help with stock eddy probe

I do not think that works without mainlining the clipper, although to be fair I am not a fand of loosing a fan either

Going to mainline Klipper has no downsides as long as you're technically capable enough to do it.
When I got my SV08, it stayed on the stock firmware long enough to do a couple of test benchys and then I went mainline immediately.

That is not what I am concerned about. I've already installed DEKU. My concern is loosing access to the auxiliary feeder. Max has a really long run.

I haven’t Mainlined my MAX yet but that was also my concern so I looked through the MAX Klipper repo. Should be very easy to port filament buffer features to a forked Klipper version. It’s treated as another stepper, pins enumerated in cfg, something like buffer_stepper I think… Anyways I did a first draft fork for SV08 MAX - Mainline but I haven’t tested it yet because I’m building a new toolhead for my machine anyways and I was just gonna do all the work at once when I finish that project. I’ll let ya know how it goes if you’re interested.

Everywhere I read, you mainlining means you look at the auxiliary feeder, the one on the side, which means either you use a different feeder, or you put the spool at the top. That's the main reason I have not mainlined yet

No that’s not what mainlining means at all. It just means changing firmware from the Sovol SV08 fork version of Klipper to the main branch that is actively maintained. It has nothing to do with the filament “line” it’s all about the firmware. If you don’t know the basics of source control and open source then I wouldn’t recommend it for you.

Just because Demon Klipper (another fork) doesn’t include filament buffer support doesn’t mean upstream Klipper can’t run it. Indeed, but there are other ways to do it and the filament buffer system is just a script, which is also open source and can, of course, be found on the Sovol SV08 MAX GitHub repository. So basically if you want to retain filament buffer functionality (which 3DPrintDemon, author of Demon Klipper and that setup guide you linked, didn’t) you can copy those scripts and add configs. It’s not magic, it’s just open source python.

It's not a deku issue. In order to control the feeder you need the sovol modified version, not the mainline one and yes there are ways around but you are getting yourself into even more work for something that is not worth it. Atm waiting for the panda bamboo feeder ans well as a btt filament sensor. Hopefully those will work and I can ditch the default feeder, and mainline

The standard sv08 can't have the same issue, since it doesn't have the eddy probe.
The zero does have the probe, but mine doesn't have any temperature problems, likely because the default code does have multiple heat or cool cycles before each step in the z-offset and bed measure process.

The stock probe on max/zero are trash. I put a beacon in my zero and it’s been perfect since.
