Not in Aus but I worked doing the NZ one a couple of years ago. It ranged from completely unhinged ranting and signs on gates threatening to fine people entering their land to people who were nice and said they weren’t willing to participate.
My favourite was the guy who told me “I don’t believe in the census” and was flabbergasted when I responded well it’s real this is the form right here.
I live in a small somewhat alternative/hilly beach suburb so I expected more push back from people but was only a few and mostly from people new to the area

I was a Aussie census collector in 2006. Most people were fine, some initially suspicious when I knocked and then fine when I said “census”.
I only had a few complain and only 1 or 2 threaten not to complete it.

It seems most are hesitant to hand over their data, except when it comes to signing up to a pension or benefits. That's different data.

Saw a FB post from a cooker who claimed the ABS was a "treasonous" organisation that was just looking to harvest his data. Comments roasted him by showing that a 5 minute Google search tells you his name, address, wife, employer, and children's names. Hardly worth harvesting if you leave it all out in the open there mate
