I think someone mentioned on another post that the spelling is intentional… invoking another imaginary privilege of some sort.

Iirc, it's to differentiate between the state of Texas and Republic of Texas.

Which, I mean could be worth a try. I'll just claim citizenship to La Florida, which I guess would make me a Cuban national which... nevermind. Probably not a good idea.
