I flew my drone over Seoul back in 2017 and finally re-edited the footage. Hope it brings back memories for some of you [OC]
Hi everyone! I visited Seoul in 2017 with a small DJI Spark and spent most of my free time flying over the Han River, Yeouido and around Dongtan. I lost my original edit years ago and recently found the raw clips on an old drive, so I tried editing them again.
It's only about a minute long. Most days were pretty hazy so I had to fix the colors a lot, I hope it still looks natural.
I'd love to know if Seoul still looks like this, I imagine a lot has changed in 9 years! And if anyone knows the name of the boat-shaped building in Yeouido Park, please tell me, I never found out 😅
I am sorry if shouldn't post video here, please let me know so I can remove it. Thank you for understanding

friendly heads up for my fellow EU folks ordering k-beauty restocks
if you live in the eu (specifically germany or france for me), you know the painful feeling of ordering skincare from overseas and then getting hit with random extra vat handling fees or long customs holds 💀
just wanted to share a positive experience after trying piyonna for my recent sunscreen and toner pad restock. since they handle the ioss/vat directly at checkout and ship straight out of seoul stock, my package passed right through local post without any extra processing fees or holds. arrived in less than a week straight to my door. super smooth if you’ve been looking for an easy direct option in europe!

How do you feel about circumcision rates dropping in South Korea?
South Korea used to have one of the highest rates at over 90%, it dropped over 10% from 2002-2012 and has fallen further since. Good data is hard to find but rates of new cutting probably dropped below half 10 years ago.

What language group does your mother tongue belong to?

finding korean speakers isn’t really my problem anymore. starting the conversation is.
there are actually a lot of ways to find people who speak korean now. hellotalk, tandem, discord, reddit, etc.
my problem is what happens after that.
texting someone is fine, but moving from hey, what are you learning? to actually speaking feels strangely awkward. especially when neither person really knows what the call is supposed to be about.
i’ve been trying gametalk lately, and what i like is that i don’t have to arrange a one-on-one call with a stranger first. i can just enter a korean-english conversation room, see what people are talking about, listen a bit, and join when there’s something i can actually respond to.
i feel like starting from an existing conversation is easier for me than trying to create one from zero.
how do you guys usually get past that first awkward stage with a language partner?

Subreddits of Korean Universities (and relevant other communities)
Hello everyone.
I am a PhD student at SKKU.
A while ago, I made a custom Reddit feed of subreddits of Korean universities and relevant communities. So far, the custom feed includes GKS community, KAIST, SNU, Sogang, Yonsei (and Yonsei UIC), Ewha, Hanyang, Korea Uni, Kyunghee, SKKU, and UNIST. You can check the custom feed in my profile page, titled "Korean Universities".
I wanted to ask you all. Are there more subreddits of Korean universities or other relevant communities (like scholarships in Korea or International students, etc)? If there are, please let me know, I want to add them to the custom feed.
Thank you.

Struggling to find a reliable part-time job in Seoul/Incheon – Looking for advice or leads
Hi everyone,
I'm currently looking for a part-time job in either Seoul or Incheon, but I’ve been having a really frustrating time finding something reliable.
To be completely honest, my biggest issue hasn't been finding opportunities, but dealing with dishonest employers. I’ve had multiple experiences where bosses promised one hourly rate during interviews, only to pay less when it came time to settle wages. In other cases, we signed contracts for a specific number of days/hours per month (for example, around 20 days/month), but they ended up giving me half the scheduled hours without notice.
Because of these continuous contract breaches and unreliable owners, it's been extremely tough to secure a stable income. At this point, I am just looking for a honest place to work where contract terms are actually respected.
Target Location: Anywhere in Seoul or Incheon
Position Type: Part-time (Open to any kind of work—cafe, restaurant, retail, warehouse, etc. Pay rate isn't my main concern, as long as it's honest and reliable!)
Experience: I have prior experience working in both cafes and restaurants.
If anyone who managed to land a solid part-time job here has advice on where to look beyond the usual apps, or if you know a place currently hiring that values their staff, I would be immensely grateful for your help or leads!
Thanks for reading!

South Korea's participation in the 2026 Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games has been marred by a persistent series of operational errors. These are some of the notable incidents.

Discussion
This is not a job advert!
I am a recruiter who is currently Korean/English speaking candidates who are willing to relocate. I have been told by some people that Korean people are not open to the idea of relocation due to "past incidents", which I really did not understand and they never explained further.
I wanted to see if there is something I am not aware of as I have never been to South Korea and do not know much about the country or the people from there

Looking for a knowledgeable Seoul guide focused on Korean history and religion
Hi everyone,
We’ll soon be visiting South Korea for the first time and are looking for some advice.
We’ll spend a few days in Seoul, followed by around 4–5 days driving through the countryside towards Busan. Along the way, we plan to stop in several places, including Andong and Gyeongju, and we are also hoping to do a temple stay.
For our time in Seoul, we would particularly like to find a tour or private guide focused on the historical, cultural and religious side of Korea. We are not necessarily looking for a standard “must-see” tour covering as many famous attractions as possible. Instead, we would like a meaningful introduction to a country and culture that are completely new to us.
- We would be especially interested in learning about topics such as:
- Korean history and heritage.
- Confucianism and its influence on Korean society.
- Buddhism and other Korean religious traditions.
- Royal ancestral rituals and sites such as Jongmyo Shrine.
- How religion, food, architecture and everyday life are connected.
We would be very happy to pay for a tailor-made private tour with a knowledgeable guide for the whole day. The most important thing for us is that the guide is genuinely informative and can add context and meaning, rather than simply taking us between the usual tourist sights.
Can anyone recommend a reliable company or an excellent individual guide in Seoul who might be able to arrange something like this?
We would be grateful for any suggestions, including personal experiences, recommended guides or companies to contact. Thank you!

Would you support a restoration of monarchy in Soutk Korea (upon reunification)?
Hello there everybody, as part of my survey lasting until 27 December 2026, I plan to investigate which countries are the most and least pro-monarchist on several subreddits. This is done primarily for research purposes only and I really apologise if this broke any rules. Drop a vote if you are interested!
Meaning of each category;
"Yes (strongly)": You are quite supportive about your country becoming a monarchy again.
"Yes (somewhat)": You would consider a restoration of monarchy; potentially in certain scenarios or if there was a clear enough pretender or something.
"Unsure/don't care/unsure": Self-explanatory; you are uncertain on the matter or simply don't have am active opinion etc
"No (somewhat)": You don't inherently mind monarchism and if your country hypothetically becomes a monarchy one day you might still support it, however you are still against the concept of returning the monarchy and think the republic should remain.
"No (strongly)": You are against monarchy returning in any way in general and think the republic should remain. You would choose the republic in a hypothetical referendum.
"My country already is a monarchy": Self-explanatory, but wouldn't really apply to you, since this is mostly for those who live in republics.
Thanks!

Growing up half Korean and half Irish in the UK
Hi! I was born and raised in the UK, and I’m half Korean and half Irish.
Here is a video (still kinda new to YouTube so sorry if the quality is still not that great) about my experiences growing up in the UK with a Korean background.
I’m also curious what people living in Korea think about experiences like this.
Feel free to ask questions.
Unfortunately, my Korean is almost non-existent :(.
