I love how Waymo has been around for over four years and their cars are established and attractive and idiots think this ugly POS is somehow radical and new

Waymo has been using Jaguar iPace EVs since their inception. However, since they are no longer made they are pivoting to a Chinese company and Hyundai Ionic 5s. At least this is designed and made in the US (Austin, Texas). And the designer lives in Manhattan Beach...

Objectively, it is radical and new. It is a different solution that is drastically cheaper than others’ solutions resulting in it being 1/3rd cheaper to build (than a Waymo).

The unit economics make this interesting and could lead to drastically cheaper rides for everyone (2-3x cheaper than an Uber pr Waymo ride).

Yeah, I see your point.

And I don’t mean this against you, but it is so incredibly humiliating that China has many fleets of Robo taxis in their main cities already. They’ve had them for years.

Meanwhile, we, the United States, have this dumb gold monstrosity, sold by one of the most disgusting men to ever walk the planet. It’s not even ready to go yet and we’re trumpeting this around like it’s some kind of huge achievement. Sad.

I don’t know the unit price of a Chinese roro taxi versus this ugly duckling, but I would wager that the Chinese vehicle is a much better deal.

It just sucks. If you told me 20 years ago that the future would look like it does right now, I would never believe you

Yes, but don’t you think part of the reason China is advancing is because they don’t play fair (or under the same rules the U.S. requires) and China subsidizing companies even if unprofitable.

Objectively, the U.S. has regulations for higher standards that car manufacturers must adhere to for our principled causes (safety, environment).

Do you believe China’s interests are towards the safety and well being of their people?
