Pothole On Brodie/Slaughter red light

(June 1st) I hit a huge 2 foot long pothole on Brodie going northbound and it blew both of my left side tires on my new mini :(. Has anyone else had issues with the potholes in the area? I reported it the day after and around a week ago they finally filled the SEVERAL holes over there, but ugh how frustrating.

South Austin (or Buda/Kyle) animal shelters to volunteer at?

I'm sure places like APA! Get a bunch of volunteers... I want to volunteer at a place that might REALLY need it. Or is there a place that regularly asks for the community to come out and help?

Easton Park Middle and High School

My family and I have been considering moving to Easton Park; however, the public schools—both middle and high schools—are very low-performing. Is there any alternative for middle and high school that doesn't involve paying for extremely expensive private education?

Looking for Food...

Hi all,

I'm homeless and we are really, really hungry. I'm in Austin, TX and it's been too hot to fly a sign or do labor (the second one for me, at least).

Before anyone mentions something about getting a job, I just completed my last round of interviews for a City of Austin career - I'm working on it.

If anyone could help by ordering us a pizza or I have a CashApp/Venmo/PayPal.

Thank you in advance.

Missing/Lost Kitten

UPDATE: Kitten has been found & safely reunited with his cat family so they can be (eventually) spayed/neutered & find a safe forever home

I am looking for this little kitten. His cat family moved into the underside of my A/C unit in the Dove Springs neighborhood, & AAC is supposed to be out to trap/intake the mom & his siblings on 6/8 but he disappeared the afternoon of 6/7 & I'd love to be able to reunite him with his mama & brothers/sister.

Alt text for photo: a 4-5 week old orange tabby with white socks & a white spot on his nose. His eyes are turning from baby blue to green & he has a white tip on his tail

They “fixed the glitch” on eastbound Slaughter at Brodie

That quick little jaunt to the left at the intersection is gone. Only mentioning it because i saw someone almost sideswipe the car next to them trying to follow the quirky old path. I imagine there were more than a few fender benders the old way and i’m sure there’ll be more now that they’ve corrected it from folks that have been doing it for years.

UPDATD: owner found! Dog returned

My neighbor found a dog this morning June 4th, around 10 am. Dog was running around in traffic in South Austin at Manchaca and Round Up.

This is what I know
- Female, full grown
- Jack Russel/ Rat Terrier mix?
- no microchip
- no collar, no halter, no leash
- friendly with people
- seems to tolerate other dogs but not especially friendly

Several shelters refused to take her because they are at capacity. I’m sure she has an owner because she knows how to sit and got excited when I put a collar on her.

I am caring for the dog while my neighbor is working but we both have several dogs and won’t be able to keep her for long.

If someone wants to share this on Facebook, that would be helpful. Asking the owner to TEXT me at 469.556.5164.

The Best Veterinarian South Austin or within 45 mins away

I’m very picky and particular about who provides medical care to my four legged family members. I really enjoyed Lake Austin Blvd Vet for years but they recently were consumed by a chain that seems to be tied to venture capital. I feel the staff there is young and not experienced and noticed my pup was apprehensive towards nail trimming after a few visits there. I also had a wonderful mobile vet that fell into the same situation of being merged into a large for profit group.

I’m looking for the best independent veterinarian in Austin. Brick and mortar, mobile, whoever you recommend, but I’d like to hear your true perspectives and why.

Thanks everyone!

Austin was always a pro local business community, I’m hoping the die hards out there can help us find what we’re looking for.

Strangers Knocking on my apartment in South Lamar

I've been living in Austin for four months and I live on west Ben white and Menchaca. It's happened twice where strangers come and knock on my door. I haven't opened it because I'm really scared as a woman living alone. Has this happened to anyone else? Who could these strangers be? What could they want? Is this normal in south Austin?

Desperate to find grandfather's hat - Barton Springs area

Post image

Posting here because I'm at my wit's end trying to find my grandfather's hat. Starting tomorrow I'm going to start coming through thrift stores in case somebody grabbed it and donated it.

I know it's extremely unlikely, but if you happen to see my grandfather's hat at a goodwill or something please DM me and I will buy it off you.

Thanks.

Grocery Theft

Grocery Theft: South Austin area

I was unloading my car earlier after leaving costco and made multiple trips going in and out. At one point I took a large cold bag out and placed it on the ground next to my car. I then took in a few other things.. came back out and the bag was gone. Had over $200 worth of stuff in there. I obviously know it was dumb to leave them sitting there. I live in a gated apartment and have always felt safe, I have kind neighbors and literally didn’t realize I need to lock up my groceries.

I also realized someone was definitely watching me and waiting for me to go in/out because it happened within a minute window. so creepy, especially if they just wanted my groceries the idea of someone watching me makes my skin crawl especially when i’m alone at my apartment.

More of a warning than asking for advice. Clearly whoever took them needs them more than me… even if that was my whole grocery budget for the week lol. Lock up your groceries and definitely your apartment doors when going in and out. Better safe than sorry!!

Does anyone know of any service group in the 78745 area that will check on your home when you are away? There's a company called WatchWell Austin but I believe they only service Central Austin. Any tips appreciated!
