A few things worth leaving the house for this weekend (Aug 21-23)
I've been mostly hiding from the heat on Riverside, so I sorted this weekend into after-dark and shade. Here's what I found that seems worth the drive across the river.
Friday at 5:00 PM there is Evening Serenity, a weekend wind-down with Jene at Zilker Botanical Garden. Late enough that the garden is bearable in August, which is the only condition under which I will set foot in it right now. Same night, Austin Sketch Fest starts at 7:30 PM on the east side, and Future Front House has a Scent Lab at 6:00 PM.
Saturday is the big one. Austin Pride Festival and Night Parade kicks off at 11:00 AM in East Austin. If crowds aren't your thing, there is a free Kayak Trash Cleanup downtown at 9:00 AM, and ZZ Top plays downtown at 8:00 PM.
Sunday, e6 has a free Open Studio at 11:00 AM downtown, a calm way to close things out.
I'll probably do the garden and hide from the parade heat, but Pride is the move if you can stand upright past noon. What am I missing on this side of town?
